see something

1. See Something, Say Something

As we continue to prioritize the safety and security of our school community, I wanted to take a moment to remind you of the importance of the "See Something, Say Something" initiative.

In our efforts to maintain a safe learning environment for all students and staff, it is crucial that we remain vigilant and proactive in identifying and reporting any concerns or suspicious activities. If you or your child notice anything out of the ordinary or have any safety-related concerns, please do not hesitate to speak up.

Remember, your observations and communication play a vital role in our collective efforts to ensure the well-being of everyone within our school community. By working together and staying alert, we can help prevent potential issues and maintain a secure environment for all.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions or need further information, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

2. Field Trip to the Holocaust Museum

In preparation for reading their next novel, Night by Elie Wiesel, students in Ms. Yoon’s English 9 Honors class attended a field trip to the Holocaust Museum to better understand the historical context of the novel. As students also prepare to learn about World War II in their social studies classes, many students were able to make connections across classes, learning both about the facts of the Holocaust and extremely important narratives of the time. At the museum, students examined portraits and photographs of victims and their families, listened to audio narratives of survivors, watched mini-docuseries from historical experts, and reflected in the Hall of Remembrance. Students left with a deepened understanding of history and were praised by museum staff for their intentional engagement with the material.

hidden in plain sight

Thank you to our parents who came out last night to hear the presentation Hidden in Plain Sight.  We learned a lot from our substance abuse prevention specialist, and we look forward to offering the session again to those who could not attend.

5. Family Engagement Survey to Open March 3

FCPS is partnering with independent research firm K12 Insight to administer a Family Engagement Survey, which will be open from Sunday, March 3, to Friday, March 22. Your feedback is critical in helping FCPS to better recognize, understand, respect, and address family strengths and needs throughout the district. Survey topics include:

  • Welcoming environment
  • Communication
  • Student success
  • Advocacy
  • Family and school partnerships
  • Community partnerships

The survey will be available in English, Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Pashto, Spanish, Urdu, and Vietnamese.

Parents/caregivers will receive the survey link via email from K12 Insight. A public link will also be posted on FCPS’ website. Paper surveys will be available in our front office. Please stay tuned for more information.

Best Buddies

6. Help Support Our Best Buddies!

Best Buddies is a club that supports our intellectually disabled students at EHS. The club’s mission is to create opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Make it easy on yourself and order dinner on Tuesday, March 5 at &pizza; you'll be supporting Edison students, too!

7. Reminders: How Students Can Ride the Bus Home with a Friend

If your student wants to go home with a friend on their bus, it requires several steps. Please give us a 24-hour notice to ensure we have time to assist!

  • The parent/guardian of both students must write a note and request their student be allowed to either ride the bus or have a friend come home with them on the bus.
  • Both students go together to the main office with the notes from home; they will be issued a bus pass.

8. FAFSA Updates for Seniors and Their Parents/Guardians

Updated Message: The Department of Education has reported that FAFSA applications are low this year. They have asked us to share the following resources with high school seniors. Please share the helpful links in your college and career communications and with your school counselors.
