A Message from Mrs. Laxton, Fort Belvoir Upper Principal

A Message from Ms. Laxton, Fort Belvoir Upper Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Today, we were made aware of a text chain from more than two weeks ago, involving several students. In this conversation, students mentioned bringing a gun to school.

Our office contacted Fairfax County Police and the Office of Safety and Security to begin an investigation. The initial findings are that there was no intent to carry out the actions mentioned in the texts. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with our Student Rights and Responsibilities.

We encourage you to talk to your child about the safe use of cell phones and social media. Monitor their device, including the social media platforms that they are using, particularly SnapChat, TikTok, and Instagram.

As we work together to ensure our schools are safe for all students and staff, please note that the authorities should always be your first step if your child shares a safety concern with you. If your safety concern is an emergency, please call 911.  The FCPS Office of Safety and Security also offers a Safety Tip Line, available anonymously online, via text, or by phone, for non-emergency concerns.

Together, we can keep our schools a safe place to learn. We appreciate your continued trust and partnership in these efforts.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Laxton
