Dear Wolftrap Families,

I have some additional playground details to communicate. I had a meeting with the facilities crew on Thursday, February 22nd. They are going to start work on March 4th, with initial construction of a path down to the field. They anticipate the playground to be completed on March 31st. The construction vehicles will be parking on the blacktop starting on March 4th. Students will be having recess on the field behind the school, as the playground and the blacktop will be used during construction. Please take special care if you drop your child via kiss and ride. You will need to be very vigilant of construction around that area. Please take special care to not use your cell phones, as is our usual practice. If you have any questions, please let us know in the office.

As you may know, Wolftrap has been supporting an FCPS school this year. We have recently heard from the principal that homelessness is up 40% since last year. The school collects grocery gift cards to support families, and they need $25 Safeway gift cards. Safeway is within walking distance to the school community, so those cards are best. There is a Safeway in Fairfax and one in McLean, for purchasing cards. If you can help, please bring gift cards to the Wolftrap office. We will continue this effort over the next couple of weeks. THANK YOU!

Our best to you,

Dr. Maggie Grove, Principal
Ms. Lisa O’Donovan, Assistant Principal

FROGS!!! If you have not heard, Wolftrap is going to be overrun with FAKE frogs on Thursday, February 29th, which is the extra day we get for LEAP year (get it? Frogs, leap year?) Our PTA is going to hide 229 frogs in the school on that day, and the students will work as a collective group to see how many they can find. We are working toward a schoolwide pajama day to celebrate our community! Here are the guidelines I shared with the students, so you can also review them at home.

  • If a student finds a frog, he/she will turn it into the teacher or bring it by the office.
  • Everyone may participate. This is not a mandatory activity.
  • At the end of the day, we will count how many frogs have been found. We are working toward a school wide pajama day.
  • Frogs will not be hidden outside, in the cafeteria, in bathrooms or in the clinic. If you find a frog in the bathroom, it was not left there by an adult, and it should be left alone. They may be hidden in classrooms, but teachers can designate when frog hunting may happen.
  • We will observe respectful and calm behavior regarding frogs.
  • This is a fun activity. 😊 Don’t stress over it. 🐸
