Attendance

We are seeing a rise in students being absent from school for family travel. These absences are unexcused.

Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of 3rd grade.

Please partner with us to ensure that your child is getting the most of their education by having them at school every day and on time.

Kindergarten Registration

We are looking forward to meeting our rising Kindergarteners!  To register your child for kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year, they must be 5 years old, on or before September 30, 2024.

Please complete the Survey of Preschool children with your rising kindergartener's information as soon as possible.

Please share this information with friends/neighbors who have upcoming kindergarten children.  They may call the school at 703-937-6100 to share their information and receive a registration packet.

NOTE NEW DATE:

Our Kindergarten Orientation will now be held on Tuesday, April 2 from 2:00-3:00PM.  It will be in-person and your rising kindergartener is encouraged to join us!

school social worker week

Thank you to OES' School Social Worker, Haley Narins!

March 3-9 is National School Social Work Week. Social workers in FCPS help to prevent social, emotional, and behavioral factors from affecting a student's ability to perform at their best. Their primary goal is to remove barriers that prevent a student from fulfilling their academic potential. Social workers are assigned to every school and center in the school division. Most social workers serve one to two sites. Learn more about the role of social workers in FCPS
