CTE Teaches Skills for Life!

In celebration of CTE Month, some of our very own Chantilly Academy students, Angelina and Duncan, were recently featured on the FCPS News Blog sharing why they love their CTE courses.  Angelina is a Cosmetology 2 student who hopes to become a Professional Hairdresser.  In Cosmetology 2, students take the State Boards at the end of the year, so Angelina will be ready for employment by graduation!

Duncan is a Carpentry 2 student and 1st place winner at this year’s District SkillsUSA Carpentry competition.  Duncan knows that he is learning valuable skills for life in Carpentry.  He says that Carpentry has taught him “the pursuit of perfection” and he loves the hands-on work he does in the class.

Thank you, Angelina and Duncan, for sharing why you love CTE.  Keep reading to check out more skills for life our students are learning at Chantilly Academy!

Thank you, bus drivers!  Bus Driver Appreciation Day was on February 22nd.  Students in our PT/OT class used their fine motor skills (that’s Occupational Therapy!) to decorate hot chocolate cups to show appreciation to our amazing Academy shuttle drivers.

Dental Careers classes are learning by doing this week!  Our future dental professionals are pictured here practicing coronal polishing.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, our Veterinary Science students welcome furry clients for grooming services including clipping/shaving, bathing, ear cleaning, and nail trimming.

Students in our Auto Collision 2 and 3 class have worked since the beginning of the school year to bring new life to this 1988 Fox Body Ford Mustang.  After months of body work and a beautiful fresh coat of paint, this vehicle will be ready to hit the road soon!

February is CTE Month!  Join us in celebrating our Career and Technical Education students, staff, and programs throughout the month.  Students are encouraged to dress in something that represents their program every Friday in February (class or CTSO t-shirt, uniform, scrubs, etc).  Be sure to follow us on Instagram @chantillystemacademy to learn more about our CTE programs and see what’s happening in our classrooms!
