Message from Ms. Kearns
Hello Bruin Families -
This week, staff celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Week by leaving kindness messages around the building and by sending notes of appreciation to other staff. It has been wonderful seeing the various messages and taking some time to remember how good it is to see kindness in action.
Next week, our Subschool 1 Assistant Principal, Ms. Rodriguez-Walhout, will be out on medical leave. Mr. Chuck Miller, former Principal at Mark Twain Middle School, will join us on an interim basis to fill that role. Mr. Miller spent 26 years as a teacher and administrator in FCPS. He is happy to return to working in schools where he can support students and teachers.
Lindsey Kearns

New Information and Important Reminders
Grading Feedback Session
FCPS Instructional Services is currently conducting feedback sessions around grading and reporting at a number of secondary schools, and Lake Braddock has been selected as one of the sites that will host a feedback session. The goal of these sessions is to better understand changes that were made this year and to consider additional needed changes moving forward.
Our feedback session will be on Wednesday, February 28 from 5:30 - 6:30 pm at Lake Braddock. If you are interested in attending, please fill out this Google Form with your contact information. Additional information about the session will be sent via email.
In order to ensure that there are an adequate number of facilitators for this session, there will be a set number of available slots. If the form is no longer accepting responses, then the session has reached capacity.
LBSS JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl Champions
After advancing through two intense phases of proctored online competition, the team made it to the National Championship level. The LBSS Army JROTC Leadership Team will compete in the June 2024 U.S. Army JROTC Leadership Bowl Championship, which will be held on the campus of The Catholic University of America, June 16-20, 2024. The Academic Team will compete in a Championship event in Washington, DC for the June 2024 U.S. Army JROTC Academic Bowl Championship, held on the campus of The Catholic University of America, June 21-25, 2024. Congratulations Cadets!
March 5 Student Holiday
March 5 has been designated a day off for students due to the Primary Election. However, the Purple and Gold Calendar will not be adjusted and March 4 and 6 will remain gold days.
March 22 Schedule and Spring Break
March 22 marks the end of the 3rd quarter; however, it is not an early release day. The schedule will be adjusted for the MS Team Day Challenge, so that 2nd and 8th periods are flipped. March 22 is also the last day of school before Spring Break and two additional teacher workdays on April 1 and 2. School will resume on Wednesday, April 3.

FAFSA Updates for Seniors and Their Parents/Guardians
There have been several technological challenges with the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) since its launch on December 31, 2023. The latest news is that colleges will not get FAFSA summaries from the U.S. Department of Education until mid-March at the earliest. As a result, colleges won’t be able to give students financial aid award letters based on their FAFSA information until late April to May, at best. Students who applied to a college that uses the CSS Profile may receive financial aid information sooner.
Different media outlets are reporting a growing list of colleges that will push back deadlines for students to accept offers of admission into May and even June. The American Council on Education has a database of colleges and universities that have extended their deadline to commit to enroll. We recommend that all information obtained by a secondary source be confirmed directly with the college or university.
If you are a caregiver or student with questions or persistent issues filling out the FAFSA, consider scheduling a free appointment with our partners at College Access Fairfax. Email Appointments@CollegeAccessFairfax.org. All FAFSA help provided by your school or College Access Fairfax is free.
100 Day Senior Meeting
We are quickly approaching the big day for our Class of 2024. Lake Braddock and the PTSA will be hosting our 100 Day Senior Meeting on March 7th at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. All parents and guardians are encouraged to attend and hear about the upcoming events leading up to Graduation Day.
At the meeting, we will be discussing important information about Senior Fees, Prom, our mulch sale fundraiser, the Bridging Bruins program, our End of Year Calendar, the Graduation Ceremony, and the All Night Graduation Party.
Please join us in the cafeteria to kick off the last 100 days of school for the Class of 2024.
