Edison Academy Monthly Newsletter

Academy Faculty and Staff

Edison Academy Families,

Next week is a short week for students. Tuesday, March 5, there will be no school for students due to voting in schools. Be mindful that the schedule (odd and even days) will not change. Students will have two even days in a row (Monday and Wednesday).

Workplace Readiness Skills (WRS) testing will begin on Friday, March 1 and Monday, March 4. As a reminder, please bring your fully charged laptops and chargers.

Please see the SkillsUSA competition results below.

We will continue to share important information and good news through these newsletters, our Edison Academy website, and social media platforms, TwitterInstagram, and Facebook.

Sincerely,

Monica Bentley, Academy Administrator

Good News & Events

To see what has been happening at Edison Academy, please take a look at our announcementsblogs, and events calendar on our Edison Academy website. You can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @EdisonAcademy to stay up to date with announcements and events.

Vet Science Grooming

Grooming continues and we are still scheduling dog baths and nail trims! We provide baths, nail trims, ear cleanings and minor trimming (around the feet, face, rear end, sanitary trims). As the year progresses, we may also be able to offer basic haircuts (nothing breed specific). We groom on mostly Wednesdays and Thursdays by appointment. Drop off is between 8:10-8:30 a.m. and pick up is between 1:45-2 p.m. If your dog is in need of a haircut, please take them to another grooming facility for the full cut and we would be a happy to do the in-between baths and trims. Cost range is $15-25 depending on type of dog and services needed. Email Karen Nestlerode at kenestlerode@fcps.edu with your dog's information or any questions.

Attendance

Please contact the Edison Academy attendance office if your student will be absent or staying at the base school due to an altered schedule using the on-line attendance form, email EdisonAcademy.Attendance@fcps.edu, or via telephone 703-924-8137. This is in addition to informing the base school attendance office.

Lanyards

All students that are not Edison High School students who attend Edison Academy have received an Edison Academy lanyard. It is expected that all feeder Academy students wear their lanyards around their neck when entering the building, in the hallways, and when they are exiting the building. This was shared with all students at our beginning of the year orientation.  This presentation has also been posted in Schoology by our teachers.  Moving forward, if your student needs a replacement lanyard there will be a $1.00 fee.

Edison Academy Parking

Students may not park at Edison Academy unless they have received an approved parking permit. Academy students with approved parking permits may only park in the parking spaces labeled 1-35 near Door 13.

Please review the parking agreement and consequences below.

STUDENT PARKING AGREEMENT

  1. All students who park on campus must purchase a student parking permit.  Any student who parks on campus without a permit will receive a $25 fine.  Continued violations will result in booting or towing of the student’s vehicle.  All towing is done by a commercial towing company.  Edison High School is not responsible for damage to towed vehicles.
  2. Students will receive a $25 for the first parking violation.  Students will receive a $50 fine for the second parking violation and will have their parking permit revoked on the third violation.
  3. Academy students must promptly vacate their assigned academy parking space at the end of their academy session and not return for the remainder of the school day. Students who park in other parking spots are in violation of the student parking agreement and are subject to fines, booting, revocation of parking privileges, and/or towing.
  4. Students must display parking permits from the rear-view mirror, facing outwards, to be identifiable.
  5. Students may not return to their vehicle during the school day without the approval of a school official.
  6. Students must always adhere to speed limits and safe driving behavior.  Revocation of parking privileges will occur for reckless driving.
  7. Students, including car-pool members who leave school grounds without permission (properly checked out through attendance) during the school day, will be referred to their administrator.  The vehicle will be subject to a search by school security personnel and/or administrators upon returning to campus as well as possible revocation of parking privileges.
  8. Parking permit fees are not refundable for revoked permits.
  9. Student drivers must follow the directions of school officials directing traffic in the parking lot.
  10. Students are subject to all state and county traffic laws, including the report of traffic accidents and/or damage to other vehicles that occur at the school parking lots.  It is illegal to pass a school bus that is loading or unloading.
  11. Student parking privileges are subject to being revoked at any time by an administrator for disciplinary reasons for but not limited to behavior and attendance school.

Parking on Edison property is at your own risk.  Edison/FCPS is not responsible for any damage or theft which takes place while parked on school property
