bookfair 2

Dear Forest Edge Families:

Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon, February 26 – March 1, 2024. Giving children the opportunity to purchase their own books empowers and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers.

Say goodbye to cash and Hello to eWallet (your child’s digital payment account). Before the Book Fair, please set up the eWallet account for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can donate by depositing money into your child’s account to increase their purchase amount.

If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Book Fair online. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. All in-person and online purchases benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

One Book One School

Ivan

We are excited to bring back our “One Book One School” reading program!  This year, we are reading The One and Only Ivan.

Participating in a school-wide reading program such as “One Book One School” helps build a community of readers and a sense of belonging within our school. Reading together at home will help children listen better and longer, build bigger vocabularies, and develop a positive attitude about books and learning. When an entire school reads together, it generates excitement about reading and being part of a fun program.

We have started reading the book together at school, and we would love for your family to join us in reading and/or discussing The One and Only Ivan at home.  You are able to read along with one of our Forest Edge staff members by joining our Flipgrid.  The oldest child in your family should have received a copy of the book.  Please let your child’s teacher know if your family still needs a copy.

Our teachers are planning a fun-filled evening of One and Only Ivan themed trivia, activities, and games for our Literacy Night on February 29.  We hope you are able to join us from 5:30-7:00!

Where's the Math?

Each week we will share a new image in News You Choose.  Because math is everywhere, each image has some math to discover!

  • With your child/children, think about…
    • What are you noticing in the image?
    • What math do you see in the image?
    • What math questions might you ask?
    • What math questions can you answer?
  • ArrayChat Questions
    • How many do you see?
    • How do you see them?
    • What number sentences/equations can you use with this image?

See this week's picture below.

How many eggs are hiding?

How many 3 packs? 6? 9? 12?

FCPS CARES Program

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. Every month a committee selects CARES of the Month recipients – one from each of the regions and one from central office. These employees are recognized in-person at their worksite, on the FCPS website, and receive a certificate and engraved enamel pin.

We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees. Anybody may submit an FCPS CARES for an employee through filling out the form at https://www.fcps.edu/careers/employeerecognition-programs/fcps-cares-program
