Lost and Found to be donated
Items in the Lost and Found will be donated at the end of February. Please encourage your student to check for missing items. Lost and Found is located in the cafeteria next to the stage.

SEL Screener 02/29
February 29th, Cooper Middle School will administer the SEL Screener during block 4. Please review the E-notify that was sent to you on Friday, January 12th, for details.
Screen Activity Reports
Parents can get information about their child's activity on their FCPS laptop. Sign up to receive a weekly Parent Report from Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, which will provide a list of the top sites the child visited that week.
Academic Advising

During the remainder of February, students will be meeting with their school counselors for individual academic advising sessions through their Science classes. Cooper counselors will review their course request sheets and ensure the requests have been properly entered into StudentVue. Rising 9th graders also meet with a Langley High School counselor after meeting with their Cooper counselor. Courses will be finalized in StudentVue once students meet individually with their counselor.
Parents will be able to view the courses students have selected using their Parent Vue account; however, all changes must be processed by your child’s middle school counselor. CLICK HERE if you need help accessing your Parent Vue account.

SCA News
Dance:
SCA is hosting our second school-wide dance on March 1st from 7-9pm in the gym! Doors open at 6:30 and parents are requested to be ready for pickup right at 9! Entry is FREE, but reserved only for Cooper students. Everyone who attends is encouraged to bring a canned food item to donate to McLean Share. Thank you to everyone who voted for our theme, which will be… HOLLYWOOD! We hope to see you March 1st!!

Understanding High School Mathematics Course Offerings
*Note: this webinar opportunity is specifically geared towards students and their families in upper elementary or middle school.
How can students participate in mathematics throughout high school in a way that is relevant to and supportive of post-secondary and career interests?
During this session we will discuss mathematics graduation requirements and how to support students in navigating the various course offerings currently available in FCPS. Students and their families may start thinking about what course pathways are available beginning in middle school. Join us to learn more.

Register for Understanding High School Mathematics Course Offerings
College Partnership Program (CPP)
Do you have a student between grades 8 through 11 who wants to go to college? If so, they should consider applying to the College Partnership Program (CPP), which offers support as students explore the idea of going to college! The deadline to apply is March 15, 2024.
CPP offers programming to help prepare students and families from 9th grade all the way through applying to and enrolling in college, including:
- Academic counseling;
- College visits;
- Help with completing college and scholarship applications;
- Monthly meetings;
- Parent education sessions;
- SAT preparation classes;
- A summer overnight experience on a college campus; and
- News and information related to colleges and careers via Schoology.
All students are eligible and encouraged to apply to this program, and are expected to meet the following requirements:
- Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher in core classes
- Attend CPP activities
- Are willing to pursue advanced coursework
- Demonstrate leadership in school or community activities
The goal of the program is to systematically mitigate the impact of barriers to access and opportunity, and support students who are from populations that are historically underrepresented on college campuses. This includes students who are the first in their family to attend college in the U.S., English language learners, students who are economically disadvantaged, and students with disabilities.

Traffic Calming Public Meeting
MCA Transportation Committee
The McLean Citizens Association (MCA) will host a citizens information event regarding the Fairfax County traffic calming program. County officials will discuss how roads can be eligible for the program and what communities can do to obtain traffic calming. HOA representatives will discuss their experience in attempting to obtain traffic calming in their neighborhood. The event takes place on

VDOT Public Meeting on Temporary Traffic Change at Dead Run Drive and Georgetown Pike
Join the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for a public meeting for the local community about a proposed temporary traffic change to help relieve congestion at the Dead Run Drive and Georgetown Pike Intersection in McLean. VDOT is proposing a left-turn restriction from northbound Dead Run Drive to westbound Georgetown Pike during peak travel periods. This restriction would be implemented by VDOT and its 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project partners, in coordination with Fairfax County, as a temporary measure to improve travel in this area.

Career and Technical Education
CTE Summer Academy (CSA) is a week-long enrichment program that allows students in grades 6-11 to dive deeper into CTE program areas, develop skills, and begin career exploration. Visit the CSA webpage to register.
Institute for the Arts Camps
IFTA is a two- or three-week summer enrichment program for students currently in grades 6-11. Students select from nearly 90 classes in art, dance, health and physical education 9 (graduation requirement), music, and theater. Visit the IFTA webpage to register.
