Churchill Chatter - Issue 12, February 23, 2024

Dear Churchill Road Families,

What a great few weeks this has been.  Last week, our PTA, kindergarten, third, and fifth grade families treated us to a delicious soup and salad luncheon.  We are so appreciative of their thoughtfulness.

Looking ahead, next week will be a full week of classes, followed by a student holiday on Tuesday, March 5 - Virginia Primary Election Day.  The Langley Pyramid Youth Art Show starts February 28 at the McLean Project for the Arts.  We hope you are able to stop by and see the creative projects by our Churchill Road students.

Our Kindergarten Orientation is coming up on April 30 from 9 - 10 a.m. Please share the word with any new neighbors or families of rising kindergarten students. Information about registration is also included in the message below. Early registration for all grade levels helps us plan for the upcoming year including hiring classroom teachers. Families with new students in any grade level (K-6) can reach out to our front office to begin the registration process.

We hope that you and your families enjoy a relaxing weekend.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Cherith Pierson-Barr and Ms. Jen Niccolls

VDOT Public Meeting on Temporary Traffic Change at Dead Run Drive and Georgetown Pike

Join the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for a public meeting for the local community about a proposed temporary traffic change to help relieve congestion at the Dead Run Drive and Georgetown Pike Intersection in McLean. VDOT is proposing a left-turn restriction from northbound Dead Run Drive to westbound Georgetown Pike during peak travel periods. This restriction would be implemented by VDOT and its 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project partners, in coordination with Fairfax County, as a temporary measure to improve travel in this area. More information is available here.

Meeting Details:

Wednesday, February 28 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Churchill Road Elementary School Cafeteria

7100 Churchill Road, McLean
