Kindergarten Registration:It's as Easy as 1-2-3...

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment.  Call Chris Franco at 703-644-4704 or email cjfranco@fcps.edu.

You can also go to the Keene Mill website below, fill out the intake form and a packet will be sent to you.

https://keenemilles.fcps.edu/student-services/new-student-registration

After the appointment at the school, the student will be ready for orientation, Bridge to Kindergarten, or any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process.

If you have neighbors with young children, please let them know about kindergarten registration.

Book Fair and Author's Visit

March will be a great month for literacy at Keene Mill! We have two great events lined up, the book fair, and the author's visit.

  1. The book fair will start on March 6th with a student preview during school hours, and an evening family event from 5:30 to 7:30. It will continue during school hours until March 13th . You may set up an e-wallet for your students to shop without carrying cash at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/keenemillelementaryschool starting February 14th
  2. Author and illustrator Ralph Masiello will visit our school on March 20th . If you would like to purchase one of his autographed books, please be on the lookout for the order form in your Thursday folder. Orders must be received by March 1st

SEL Screener

The Spring Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3-6 during the week of March 4th.

Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed.

The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. More information is available about the SEL Screener by accessing this link:

https://www.fcps.edu/student-tests-and-assessments/student-assessment-details/social-emotional-screener

If you have any questions, please reach out to our SEL Lead, Sandi Yost, at 703-644-4735.

FCPS Cares!

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees at Keene Mill ES. We love our KMES staff members, let's tell them how we feel!
