EMT students begin their ER rotations and ride alongs

Many thanks to Inova Fair Oaks Emergency Department and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue for allowing our EMT students to gain experience and patient contacts while monitoring patient's challenges.  Students have witnessed cardiac issues, lacerations, broken bones, complications with pregnancies, mental challenges, anaphylaxis and more.  One student mentioned, "It's interesting how smoothly everyone worked together with a common language."  Another student received high praise from a patient who said "you are going to do so great in this field" as our student held her hand and talked to her as she was being cared for.  Another student matter of factly stated "I can really see myself here!"  At the end of the EMT course, students have the opportunity to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam.  To take this exam, EMT students must have ten patient contacts which is now possible through these experiences.  We are very grateful for these amazing learning experiences.

ASL Students learning through game playing

ASL students learn environmental signing language

ASL students are learning about their environment and how to discuss and debate topics affecting their surroundings through a multi-sensory game created by their teacher, Ms. Cori Parks.  Students really enjoy this game where they discuss questions about the environment, engage in tactile activities like Jacks and Pick Up Sticks and expand their ASL vocabulary.

Phlebotomy skills are learned and practiced by Medical Assistant students

Students in the Medical Assistant classes are gaining hands-on skills while being taught phlebotomy techniques.  Youth and Adult simulation arms are used to help the students experience and perfect these skills.

Students learning to intubate

We love when graduates come back to teach!

On the recent snow delayed opening day, our very own Allie DeVan '18,  came in to teach our students how to intubate a patient.  These medical assistant students got to participate in her demonstration and hands on experience.  Allie is now working as a paramedic in Lewiston, Maine.

Parking and Transportation

Picture of cars

Due to construction at Falls Church High School, parking is extremely limited this academic year.  Students are greatly encouraged to take the provided shuttles to and from their base school.  If students choose to drive to Falls Church Academy for class from their base school, parking passes are in very limited supply and are given on a first come/first serve basis.  Students who do drive will need to park at Providence Recreation Center and walk to the high school.  The Application for Use of Private Automobile will need to be completed and returned to Ms. Fields in Room 237 before parking can be approved.   Falls Church Academy Student Parking Rules, Guidance, Fines and Penalties will apply.
