Presidents Day

Presidents Day

Presidents Day, officially recognized in the United States, is celebrated on the third Monday in February each year. It is a time to honor and remember the birthdays and achievements of the country's most distinguished leaders, and to reflect on the president's role in shaping the nation's history and development.

All schools and offices will be closed on Monday, February 19, for the Presidents Day holiday. Learn more about Presidents Day in Britannica.com.

Cell Phone and Smartwatch Reminders

We are seeking support from our Cardinal Forest community as we help our Mighty Red Birds become responsible digital citizens. Recently, our CFES staff has experienced some concerns with personal devices during the instructional day. These concerns primarily stem from smartwatches with phone features that are not turned off. This presents a problem not only in classrooms but also in our restrooms, cafeteria, and at recess. Unless there is a medical exception, we would greatly appreciate the caregivers of students who have a smartwatch to ensure that the phone features are turned off during the instructional day. Your student’s one-to-one device should meet most of their instructional needs and the main office will remain the primary contact point for communication from home during the school day.

If a student is found to be accessing the internet or communicating with others over their smartwatch during the instructional day, you should anticipate a phone call from the school. Please be advised that a smartwatch with phone features turned on during the instructional day will be treated as a cell phone (silenced and in their backpack) until we receive communication from the caregiver that the phone features are scheduled to be off during the instructional day. We appreciate your partnership as we encourage our students to remain focused on their learning during the course of each day.

SR&R Handbook page 15

2601.37P. Cell Phone Guidelines Elementary school Kindergarten-sixth grade (including sixth grade at middle schools) Phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Watches that serve a dual purpose (e.g., smart watch) may be worn; however, phone features (e.g., texting, Internet, calls, etc.) are to be off when phone use is prohibited. Students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms and locker rooms, unless there is a medical necessity or emergency. Teachers may allow usage of cell phones for instructional activities where they are the most appropriate tool, however one-to-one FCPS devices should meet most needs. Cell phones maybe used on campus only before and after school.  FCPS is not responsible for loss or damage of students’ devices.

🧸 Kindergarten Registration:

It’s as Easy as 1-2-3…

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment.

After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation, Bridge to Kindergarten, or any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process.

💻 Try Online Registration

Parents may register their children online for kindergarten through 12th grade. Learn how to begin the online registration process

When registering, parents will create (or log in to an existing) SIS ParentVUE account. Please note that passwords should be more than 12 characters long. If you have an existing account and your password is shorter, please update it when you log in.

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow. We All Belong Here! 🫶🏽
