Principal's message

Dear GBW, we have been monitoring and assessing our Kiss and Ride protocols to help make them safer, and we wanted to share some safety best practices to help improve the safety and efficiency of our Kiss and Ride line.  Please help us to keep our students, staff, and community safe by following these safety guidelines.

Kiss and Ride Safety Protocols and Best Practices:

  • Follow traffic patterns- please honor and follow the traffic pattern shown in the map below.
  • Parents and guardians stay in your car- the Kiss and Ride is specifically designed so that parents and guardians can safely stay in their car and not walk in the driving lane.  The staff and or student patrols can assist students with exiting the car and shutting the car door.  If you want to walk your child to our door, the Kiss and Ride is not a safe option for you. Instead, you should consider parking in the neighborhood and walk your child so that you do not disrupt the Kiss and Ride traffic.
  • Students exit car on sidewalk side- please ask your children to exit and enter your car from the sidewalk side.  It is a safer best practice to have students enter and exit your car from the sidewalk side so students are not walking in our Kiss and Ride lane.
  • Save handicapped parking spaces for those who need them- we have several students who require a handicapped parking space to safely access our building.  If you do not have a DMV issued handicapped parking permission, please save these spaces for our families that need this accommodation.
  • Do not pass cars in line- some cars have been reported passing cars in our Kiss and Ride line in an unsafe way.  If you are parking your car in our parking lot, please follow the traffic patterns until you can safely access your parking space without driving around cars in an unsafe manner.
  • Have children ready to exit- have your child prepare to unbuckle their seatbelt and have their materials ready to exit when you park in the Kiss and Ride line.  We do our best to keep our Kiss and Ride line moving efficiently so that all students can get to class on time and so families can get to their work on time as well.  Please help us to keep everyone on time by having your child ready to safely exit the car once you safely park in our Kiss and Ride line.

Thank you everyone for helping us to constantly reflect and improve upon our safety practices, and please let us know if you have any questions or other suggestions for improving safety.
