Haycock Hello 2.19.24

Dragon Parade

Dear Parents,

Thank you to the wonderful PTA for the Valentine's treat bags for the staff on Wednesday.  It meant a great deal to all of us.❤️

This is Kids Heart Challenge week.  You are welcome to join your student's PE class this week.  In combination with Heart Challenge week, the SCA has planned a Spirit Week.  Please see below for our daily spirit activities this week.

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the PTA Reflections Contest.  At the reception on Friday evening, the creativity of our students around the theme of I am Hopeful because... was amazing.  Congratulations to the students who will be going on to the next level.

We hope you're getting excited about the Haycock PTA Silent Auction on Saturday, March 9.  We know we are!  See information below about this fun and important event for our school and community.

February is Black History Month.  Some of our staff members decorated the display case in the main entrance hallway with books and other family artifacts that reflect the rich culture and achievements of African Americans throughout our country's history.  Make sure to take a look when you come into school.

With appreciation for your partnership,

Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu

Information for Parents of 5th and 6th Graders

In 2013, Virginia passed a law requiring every school system to provide information to parents annually about eating disorders with parents/guardians of students in the fifth through twelfth grades.

According to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA 2023),

Eating disorders are serious but treatable mental and physical illnesses that can affect people of all genders, ages, races, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations, body shapes, and weights. In the United States, 28.8 million Americans will suffer from an eating disorder at some point in their lives.

There is no single cause of an eating disorder. Rather, it is a complex combination of biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors that converge and set off an individual’s predisposed genetic vulnerability.

In collaboration with the Fairfax County Health Department, FCPS has developed a web page with detailed information and resources about eating disorders.  To find out more, please visit the FCPS Eating Disorders website.

In addition to the information on the FCPS website, the National Eating Disorders Association has a toll free, confidential Helpline, 1-800-931-2237.
