SR&R Technology Use

From the Principal's Den

Over the past few weeks, our School Based Technology Specialist, Mrs. von Kolnitz, has visited classrooms in grades 2-4 and reviewed use of computers and other digital devices. Grades 5 and 6 will be scheduled for March. The presentation included students reviewing the short video,  Student Rights and Responsibilities: Technology Use and a discussion on responsible, respectful, and safe use of the computer. Students were encouraged to be responsible by storing their device in a safe spot, not eating or drinking while using the device and keeping their device charged. They discussed respectful use as staying on task and doing only what the teacher directs and treating others with kindness. Finally, safe use is described as keeping passwords and personal information private.

Students were also reminded to keep their cellular phones in their backpacks during the day. They were also reminded that their smart watches are like phones. The smart watch phone functions, calling and texting, should only be used before and after school or with the permission of the teacher, or for arranged use for medical reasons.

Thank you for your continued support of monitoring students’ computer use at home and reinforcing the responsible, respectful, and safe use of digital devices.

All the best,
Lawrence Caines

Family Assistance

FHES is committed to ensuring that our students have the resources they need throughout the school year to reach their full potential in school and within the community.  Through the partnership of our PTA Care & Share, Equity Leads, and Family Liaison, an optional and confidential questionnaire has been developed to learn more about the types of assistance families in our community may need with food, school supplies, or clothing.  Here is the link to the questionnaire.  If you have any questions about this form, please contact our Family Liaison, Christina Schauss, at caschauss@fcps.edu or
(703) 619-2674.
