Principals Message

Dear Wolverine Community,

This has been a busy but great week in the Wolverine Community.  The play, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night” was very powerful.  The students, cast and crew, did a fabulous job.  The play is still running through today, February 10.  We have had some great activities honoring Black History Month and those activities will continue through the month.  One highlight, Mr. Cooper, one of our amazing educators has an extensive exhibit set up in the building honoring Black History Month.

Cooper 2

I have been able to attend two partial days at Region Wrestling and multiple senior nights for different sports teams. I am so proud of our student athletes with all their hard work and dedication.

A few reminders:

  • I have been communicating through messages and in announcements about no longer allowing students to have 3rd party delivery companies delivering food on campus. We will now begin to confiscate the food and throw it away.  It is a safety issue as we have students propping doors open to let the delivery folks walk right into our building.  If a parent/guardian would like to bring a lunch, (example, their student forgot at home), the parent/guardian should come to Door 1 and go through the main office.
  • The PTSA is an integral part of West Potomac including parents, educators and students. The PTSA helps support our academic enrichment programs and is an important way to be an active member of the Wolverine community. It is not too late to join! Go to: Givebacks (memberhub.com) and select the membership that best suits you. Working together, we can help our school community feel supported and appreciated.
  • Parents and Guardians, please make sure students are coming to school each day!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Please help your students remember to come to school CHARGED to learn!

  • Students are expected to come to school with a charged Chromebook every day.  At the beginning of the year, all students were issued one Chromebook and one charger.  If your student has lost their charger, a replacement one can be purchased for $23 on My School Bucks.  Your student can stop by the technology office with questions or concerns.
  • Please encourage your student to charge their Chromebook at home rather than bringing the charger to school.  All of the chargers look the same and are not able to be traced back to a specific student.  A charged Chromebook will last more than 12 hours, so please encourage your student to charge their Chromebook at home before coming to school.

A & A/B Honor Roll Celebration

Help us celebrate the hard work of our All A’s And A/B Honor Roll 2nd Quarter students! We will be serving up a Chips and Queso Bar from Moe’s (a student favorite) on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16 during all four lunches. We need volunteers to help set up, serve, and clean up. No experience is necessary, and it is a great way to meet other parents and West Po students!

Library

The library has transitioned to an electronic lunch pass. During advisory this week students went over the new pass system. We have also been piloting the new system with students during all lunches this week. Starting Monday, February 12th, students planning to visit the library during lunch must fill out the Google form.  A new form will be posted to the Library Schoology page every Monday. Students can sign up for a pass daily or fill the form out Monday morning for the entire week. Should your student have questions, please send them to the library and we can direct them to the form.
