Campbell's Corner

Greetings Key families,

This week was National School Counselor Week! We celebrated our amazing school counselors and student services team with decorations and daily shoutouts from our SCA, a breakfast, and some special treats. Our counselors do amazing things for our students every day, and our school wouldn’t be the same without them. Please join me in wishing our team a happy National School Counselor Week!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Track Coach Needed!

These position come with a stipend! Our goal is to motivate and inspire our students to enjoy the experience and hopefully stick with running into high school. We had success in our fall cross country season, and our kids had fun, learned the values of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance while participating in a competitive, interscholastic sport. If you are interested in being a coach for the Key MS track team, please reach out to Principal Campbell at amcampbell1@fcps.edu.

Tech

New Tech Support Feature

Our tech support reporting system has a new feature allowing students to provide feedback to our tech support team. Most students are using this feature responsibly, but we have seen some examples of students using the feature to make jokes or give negative feedback that is not constructive. Since this is a new feature, we would appreciate your support in encouraging students to use is appropriately and intentionally. Thank you!

Lexia Night

📚 Lexia Parent Night: How We Help Your Child Learn to Read

FCPS funds the use of Lexia for all elementary and middle schools to use as part of their literacy instruction. Lexia is a computer-based program that supplements classroom instruction to help students develop literacy skills. It also provides teachers with data to identify students who need additional support, and the ability to know which specific concepts and skills to prioritize.Attend an information night on Monday, February 12, at 6:30 p.m., at Thoreau Middle School. Parents/caregivers will learn more about Lexia, and how FCPS is integrating it into the classroom and supporting student growth in reading. Attendees will also get tips for supporting their students at home.

Register to attend or submit a question in advance. Unable to attend in person? Join on Zoom

Integrating Lexia into the literacy curriculum aligns with the Virginia Literacy Act, FCPS’ Equitable Access to Literacy, and FCPS Strategic Plan Goal 3, which aims to have all students reading on level by the end of third grade.

Coming Soon: Lightspeed Classroom Management Tool

In the coming weeks, our school will be introducing a new classroom management tool that will help teachers better connect with student devices during classes. The new tool will provide teachers with a number of helpful features:

  • Easily view student screens in real time from the teacher console to see which students may need guidance or support.
  • Focus student attention on a particular website on their device to minimize distractions.
  • Pause student access to the internet to focus on other classroom tasks.

We believe this classroom management tool will allow us to maximize class time to support your student’s learning while at school. Please let us know if you have any questions.
