Dear Bailey’s ES Families,

I hope this message finds you well. As we reflect on another event filled week here at Bailey’s ES, I am excited to share some highlights from our recent activities.

Our kindergarten students celebrated the 100th day of school today.  It was a joyous occasion filled with laughter and a sense of accomplishment as we celebrated this milestone together. Our students' creativity and enthusiasm were truly remarkable, and I am immensely proud of their dedication to their education.

We also had the privilege of hosting participants from the Kennedy Center’s Changing Education Through the Arts conference, who visited our school to experience the magic of our arts integration program. Their visit provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase the incredible talent and innovation of our students and staff. I am grateful for the support and recognition of our commitment to arts education, and I am confident that these experiences will continue to inspire and enrich our school community.

Lastly, we are thrilled to announce that we will celebrate Kindness Week next week.  This initiative is a testament to our shared values of compassion, empathy, and inclusivity. Throughout the week, our students will participate in a Kindness Spirit week filled with  in various kindness-themed events and activities, that will encourage students to spread positivity and goodwill wherever they go.

As always, we want to express our appreciation for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of our students, and we are excited to see what we will accomplish in the weeks and months ahead.

February Lunch Visitation Calendar!

Parents/Caregivers are invited to join their student(s) for lunch at school on an assigned day. This is a great opportunity for parents/caregivers to come in for lunch with their child.

We encourage parents/caregivers to eat the same lunch as their child either packed or school lunch. We kindly ask that you do not bring fast food/outside lunch or candy. Also, parents please be advised that the bathrooms directly outside of the cafeteria are for student use only.

On the day of your child’s lunch, please arrive 5 minutes early so you can sign-in at the office and they will direct you to the cafeteria. Additionally, when you leave the school, please remember to check out in the office.  If you choose to buy lunch from the cafeteria, adult pricing is $4.50 and may be paid in cash.  Click here for more information on purchasing lunch.

We ask that you please limit visitors to 1 caregiver, and no strollers please. We also ask that family members do not follow their child's class back to the classroom or outside for recess.

Please see below for the scheduled lunches by teacher:

Kindness Week is coming 2/12- 2/16

What is Virginia Kindness Week?

The purpose of Kindness Week is to recognize that simple day-to-day acts of kindness enable our schools, communities, and state to be a kinder, safer, healthier and more inclusive place to live, work, learn and play.

This is a schoolwide and community celebration. At Bailey’s we will have a Spirit Week to celebrate kindness (paper copies were sent home on 2/1 and see the calendar below). Classrooms will have discussions on why kindness is important and how to show kindness to all (self, peers, adults, environment).

Lastly, as a family you can use the Kindness Idea Bank document to think about different ways to show kindness at home, school, and in the community (see below).

🚍 Here Comes the Bus

Want to know if your child's bus is on schedule or where the bus is? Here Comes the Bus® is an easy-to-use website and app that enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus — almost in real time — on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.

Parents can track multiple buses if their children don’t all ride the same bus; know exactly when children arrive at school or the bus stop; and receive customized text and/or email notifications about bus locations, schedule changes, or delays.

To get started, download the app from the Apple iOS or Android app store. Check out the Here Comes the Bus and Frequently Asked Questions webpages for more information.

Already using the Here Comes the Bus app? Send your feedback to HCTB@fcps.edu.

Note: eNotify text messaging will continue to be used for reporting bus delays and bus incidents.

What Families Can Do to Fight Drug Misuse

FCPS is committed to raising awareness about the opioid epidemic with our educators, parents/caregivers, and students. Together, we can help ensure our students thrive.

What can families do?

  • Show you disapprove of underage drinking and other drug misuse. More than 80% of young people ages 10-18 say their parents are the leading influence on their decision whether to drink.
  • Show you care about your child’s health, wellness, and success.
  • Show you are a good source of information about alcohol and other drugs. Find helpful resources on the FCPS Opioid Awareness webpage
  • Pay attention to your child and discourage risky behaviors.
  • Build your child’s skills and strategies for avoiding drinking and drug use. Talk with your child about what they would do if faced with a decision about alcohol and drugs, such as texting a code word to a family member or practicing how they will say, “No thanks.”
