The Clearview Community Connect

Stronger together

Dear Clearview Families,

This week, we celebrated the 100th day of school!  It’s amazing how time flies.  Thank you for continuing to support routines for bedtime and mornings and getting children to school on time.  Doing so sends children the message that education is important and sets them up for success each and every day.  We truly can’t thank you enough!

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or compliments you may have. If you have seen a Clearview staff member going above and beyond, fill out an FCPS Cares here.

.Have a great weekend!

📚 Lexia Parent Night:

How We Help Your Child Learn to Read

FCPS funds the use of Lexia for all elementary and middle schools to use as part of their literacy instruction. Lexia is a computer-based program that supplements classroom instruction to help students develop literacy skills. It also provides teachers with data to identify students who need additional support, and the ability to know which specific concepts and skills to prioritize.Attend an information night on Monday, February 12, at 6:30 p.m., at Thoreau Middle School. Parents/caregivers will learn more about Lexia, and how FCPS is integrating it into the classroom and supporting student growth in reading. Attendees will also get tips for supporting their students at home.

Register to attend or submit a question in advance. Unable to attend in person? Join on Zoom

Integrating Lexia into the literacy curriculum aligns with the Virginia Literacy Act, FCPS’ Equitable Access to Literacy, and FCPS Strategic Plan Goal 3, which aims to have all students reading on level by the end of third grade.

🔍 Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activity

FCPS has tools to help parents know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided at no cost to families by Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service.

Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for free access to the Internet Use Parent Portal. Come hang out with us at Chuck E. Cheese (2465 Centerville Rd. in Herndon) on Mon. Feb. 19. There’s no school that day (Presidents Day Weekend), so be sure to head over for some pizza and fun from 3-9 p.m. Watch for a Tuesday Folder flyer next week that includes some special coupons, including 10 free play points for Clearview families. When each of us personally invites at least one other parent, we’ll have a more successful event and we’re helping to build a sense of community.

The return of spirit wear

You asked and we’re ready to deliver! Watch for more information later this month about our final round of spirit wear sales for this school year. Get ready, Yellow Jackets!

Let’s talk about children and cell phones

The Clearview PTA was selected as a 2023 program grant recipient from the National PTA to deliver a 1-hour workshop for families called “Ready, Tech, Go.” Together, we’ll learn what current research says about kids’ tech habits, explore the meaning of “screen readiness,” and discuss ways to promote healthy and responsible device use for all members of the family. We’ll host this workshop as part of our April member meeting and provide dinner for families that night. Mark your calendar for Wed., Apr. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center (1086 Elden Street).
