Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. FCPS Social Studies provides information and suggested activities and resources to support teaching and learning Black and African American history. This Black History 180 document supports the celebration of Black History Month in February, as well as every other school day.

Black history is American history. Students deserve meaningful, sustained opportunities to learn about the experiences and contributions of Black and African American people year-round, and Black History Month is one opportunity to honor these diverse and important stories.

Congratulations to Mr. Harrison, Region 4 Outstanding Teacher of the Year!

PE This Week

The PE department wants to thank Victory Martial Arts instructor Mr. Houser for coming in to work with our kindergarten through third grade students this week.  The key points he went over were courtesy, respect, and discipline.  The students learned how to quickly move their hands to push (push away the things that are bad like too much tv or junk food) and put away (put away their toys or shoes). They practiced kicks in space to set their goals and reach for them. One student in each session got to break a board with their strong hand movement. All students promised to “never, ever, ever” use their cool karate moves on their friends, siblings, or pets. They learned that if something is challenging or hard, they will not give up.  Instead, they will say, “yes, I can!”. Mr. Houser did an amazing job leading the large groups. He kept their attention and taught them to move safely in new ways. We appreciate Mr. Houser and Victory Martial Arts for the great classes!
