School Counseling Week

counselors

School counselors: the unsung heroes of the hallways, the calm in the storm of adolescence, the cheerleaders for every student's potential. Today, we take a moment to shower them with the appreciation they deserve!

Here's why our GBE school counselors are rockstars:

  • They wear many hats: From academic advisors to mental health champions, they guide students through the complexities of school life, navigating everything from course selection to bullying to personal struggles.
  • They're champions of empathy: Their open ears and supportive presence provide a safe space for students to confide, be heard, and feel understood. They offer a non-judgmental zone where vulnerabilities can be shared and solutions explored.
  • They advocate for every student: Whether it's helping students find their voice or fighting for their rights, they stand up for what's fair and work tirelessly to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive.
  • They're future-focused: They help students chart their academic and career paths, offering guidance and encouragement as students explore their dreams and aspirations. They are instrumental in shaping the next generation of leaders and innovators.
  • They go above and beyond: Their dedication extends far beyond the school day. They often work late hours, attend meetings, and collaborate with families and communities to ensure students receive the support they need.

So, to all the school counselors out there, especially our GBE counselors, a heartfelt THANK YOU! You are the backbone of our educational system, making a profound difference in the lives of countless students. Your impact is immeasurable, and your dedication is truly inspiring.

Here Comes the Bus 🚌

Want to know if your child's bus is on schedule or where the bus is? Here Comes the Bus® is an easy-to-use website and app that enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus — almost in real time — on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.

Parents can track multiple buses if their children don’t all ride the same bus; know exactly when children arrive at school or the bus stop; and receive customized text and/or email notifications about bus locations, schedule changes, or delays.

To get started, download the app from the Apple iOS or Android app store. Check out the Here Comes the Bus and Frequently Asked Questions webpages for more information.

Already using the Here Comes the Bus app? Send your feedback to HCTB@fcps.edu.

Note: eNotify text messaging will continue to be used for reporting bus delays and bus incidents.

FriYay AttenDANCE 🕺💃

Today's Attendance rate is 82.2%.

As of today, students enrolled at the beginning of the school year that have missed 8 or fewer days of school are helping us reach our goal of 85% (percentage of students not chronically absent). Thank you for making regular school attendance a priority! We love dancing our way out of the building on Fridays at dismissal when our overall chronic absenteeism rate is below 15%!

Pickup Patrol

Use PickUp Patrol to report absences

In emergencies, email or call the front office

This is a reminder to put your students' absence, arriving late, or leaving school early in Pickup Patrol (PUP). All default plans should be up to date. Make sure you change the default plan anytime you change your students' permanent dismissal. Emails and phone calls are no longer encouraged, except for emergencies. When you enter a change in PUP, it goes directly to your child’s teacher as well as our front office staff. Please remember to provide a reason for the absence, late arrival or early dismissal. Changes must be entered on PUP by 2:30pm each day. If you need assistance setting up your PickUp Patrol account, please reach out to Adriana Barreto at 703-633-6400 or aabarreto@fcps.edu.
