Principal Message

Dear Parents,

This week we begin our school wide celebration of Black History Month.  We have boulevards (hallways named as streets) to honor African-Americans who have contributed to different walks of life.  Students will be able to walk the halls and see how these individuals shared their gifts and talents with their communities and our country.

Student safety is our highest priority, so we need to make you aware of a dangerous situation.  If you are driving to pick up your child and meeting them on Marshall Road, please park at Vienna Aquatic Center parking lot and cross using the flashing signal at Marshall Rd and Pickett Pl.  Please obey the NO PARKING signs on Marshall Rd and Rachel Ln to prevent students from crossing Marshall Road during this busy time. These signs were installed after a student was hit by a car several years ago. Thank you for helping us all keep each other safe.

We hope you can join us for our Science Share/STEAM Night taking place this Thursday, February 8, 5:30-7:00 pm.  Student Science Fair projects will be displayed and students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of STEAM activities.  We are proud of our student scientists.

Have a great week!

Much peace.

PTA Update

Science Share & STEAM Night this week

We hope you can join us for the Science Share/STEAM Night this Thursday, February 8, 5:30-7:00 pm.  Roadrunners should bring their science projects to the gym on Thursday morning after 9:15 am.  All grade levels will walk through the Share during the school day.  Families are invited to come and see the projects our student scientists prepared and participate in hands-on STEAM activities in the evening.  Activities will include fun with conductive dough and LEDs, playing with UV/light sensitive beads, exploring the size and makeup of the universe, and more!

We still need additional volunteers to assist students with activities.  Please sign up here to help make this event a success.  You do not need to have a STEAM background to support this event, and middle and high school volunteers are welcome!  See flyer for more details.

Questions about Science Share can be directed to your student's teacher.  For questions about STEAM night and volunteering, please contact PTA STEAM Night Lead Michelle Weinberger at Weinberger.Michelle@gmail.com.

Contribute a dessert for Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week

This year we will be celebrating Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week February 12-16.  We think the world of our Marshall Road teachers and staff, so during the week we will celebrate festivals and food from around the world!

On Friday, February 16, we will serve Desserts from Around the World.  We are asking families to join us in celebrating everyone at MRES by bringing a dessert that shares part of your cultural heritage.  Sign up here to let us know what you are bringing.  Desserts can be dropped off in the lobby by 10:00 am on Friday.  Please label your item, including the name of your dessert and any allergens.

Help Support our Scholastic Book Fair

The Marshall Road Scholastic Book Fair is coming up February 26–March 1!

Volunteer: Volunteers are crucial to the success of the Book Fair.  The PTA is requesting volunteers to help with setup and decorating, working the register, helping students find books, and packing up once the fair ends.  Sign up for a Book Fair shift and help make this event a success!  Contact Jill or Komal with questions at bookfair@marshallroadPTA.org

Donate to Share the Fair: Scholastic’s All for Books is now Share the Fair, a program designed to ensure that every kid in school gets to experience the Book Fair.  Please consider rounding up your purchase, donating your extra change, or contributing to the MRES Share the Fair eWallet.  All money collected for Share the Fair will be used to buy books for students who may not otherwise be able to purchase them.

Spring Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener

The Spring Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3-6 during the week of  March 4.  Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed.  The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to.  More information is available about the SEL Screener by accessing this link.

Please contact your child’s school counselor if you have any questions.
