PUMA PRESS: February 9, 2024

Important Dates

  • February 19th - President's Day

100th day of School

We enjoyed celebrating the 100th Day of School on Thursday, February 8th. All of our students and staff lined the halls to cheer along the 1st graders as they paraded the halls dressed like they were 100 years old or decorated with 100 items.

It is one of our favorite annual traditions at our school!

SEL Screener

Hello families,

The Spring Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3-6 between February 26 and March 15. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. More information is available about the SEL Screener by accessing this link:

https://www.fcps.edu/student-tests-and-assessments/student-assessment-details/social-emotional-screener

If you have any questions please reach out to our SEL Screener Lead, Carsen Leeder, at cbleeder@fcps.edu.

Lightspeed Parent Report Request

FCPS has tools to help parents and guardians know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided by Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, at no cost to families. You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours. Find out more and sign up for these services on our website.

Health Room Updates

The safety of your student(s) is a priority for us.  Please review these important medication protocols to help ensure the safety of our medication administration management in Fairfax County Public Schools.

  • Any time you drop off or pick up a medication in the health room, a Medication Delivery/Pick Up Form will be completed and signed by both the parent/guardian and the School Health Aide or FCPS staff member. This form will document that all required authorizations are complete, and the number of pills or amount of medication accepted/returned. A copy of the form will be given to the parent/guardian and school administrator.
  • Medications received will be verified to ensure the description of the medication on the container/packaging matches the medication in the container.
  • All medications must be in the original pharmacy container. Over the counter (OTC) medications must be in an unopened original container. It will no longer be acceptable for parents/guardians to bring in refills from home and place them into the container currently in the health room.
  • Only a 30-day supply of medications should be brought to school. No more than 100 tablets or pills of OTC medication should be brought to school.

All requirements outlined in FCPS Regulation 2102, First Aid, Emergency Treatment and Administration of Medication for Students, continue to apply.  We appreciate your support in implementing these new safety practices.
