It has been a busy few weeks at Rose Hill with band and strings concerts, GLOW Literacy Night, a visit from Telemundo, and of course, the day-to-day learning that takes place! The opportunities that our students have to engage in various activities and learning is pretty darn awesome and we are incredibly thrilled to watch and support our students thrive.

Telemundo Story on Rose Hill

Telemundo

Last Monday a reporter from Telemundo spent a few hours at Rose Hill with the purpose of highlighting the long-standing (over 30 years!) immersion program. The first grade students and Sra. Cruz did a fantastic job with the interviews and keeping the learning going all the while a reporter was in the classroom. If you would like to see the piece that was aired, click this link. It is better viewed on a mobile device rather than a laptop.

Rose Hill Student Ambassadors

Ambassadors

As part of being a Purple Star Designated School, we have initiated a Student Ambassador program. These are military connected kiddos and will facilitate family tours for new to Rose Hill families. When new students start at Rose Hill, the Ambassadors will also help serve as a buddy and help the child learn the ropes of our school, sit with them at lunch, play with them at recess, etc. The goal is to help military families become adjusted to their newest home and make them feel welcome by the Rose Hill community.

Culture Night

Older & Younger Rockets Partnering Up

We are so fortunate to have such a greate grade level span at Rose Hill. We have students as young at 1 1/2 years old that attend and then, of course, we have our 6th grade students. This year, our teachers have been more intentional at finding opportunities to partner up our older and younger Rockets together. Whether it's to read to each other, mentor, help with some learning, and regardless of what it is, both sets of students enjoy the opportunity. We especially find it beneficial for our older students because it is a chance to show their learning, practice patience, and see how they truly are leaders within our building. It is awesome to watch students, who might be a bit nervous, step up to the plate and work with some younger students.

The picture below shows how 3rd grade students worked with Kindergarten students on a Fitness & Nutrition unit. This happened on our recent 2-hour release day and our PE teacher created this opportunity for our students.

In music class, the preschool students were recently learning about strings instruments so the teachers coordinated and opportunity for some 5th graders to come down to their classroom to share how to play their strings instruments and what they sound like. It was so great to watch the students learn from each other!

GLOW Literacy Night

GLOW

Thank you to the almost 400 families who came to GLOW Literacy Night! It was so much fun watching families participate in the various literacy-related activities. A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Cho, Literacy Resource Teacher; Mrs. Millett, Media Specialist; and Mrs. Pennington, Family Liaison; who worked to coordinate this event and of course, our other team members who stayed to support the various stations. We are looking forward to seeing even more families at the Celebrate Community & Culture Night, Thursday, February 15th.
