Principal's Message
Dear Crestwood Families,
At Crestwood ES, we aim to foster a vibrant learning environment for every student. We know regular attendance plays a crucial role in academic success, and even missing just two days a month can impact learning. That's why we're calling for your partnership to prioritize attendance throughout the second semester.
Our amazing school staff is actively tracking attendance and addressing concerns thoughtfully. While we're making progress, there's still room for improvement. Remember, the Virginia Department of Education defines chronic absenteeism as missing 10% (18 days) or more of the school year, regardless of the reason. To maintain good standing, our overall absenteeism rate needs to stay below 15%. Let's achieve this together!
Punctuality Matters Too! Arriving at school by 9:00 AM ensures students start class on time and don't miss important instruction. Every minute counts!
Your influence on your child's attendance is significant. Here are some ways you can help:
- Limit non-essential absences: Encourage your child to attend school unless truly ill or for a valid reason.
- Schedule appointments strategically: Opt for partial days, if possible, instead of missing entire days for appointments.
- Seek alternative times for medical appointments: Whenever possible, schedule doctor visits outside of school hours.
- Plan vacations wisely: Align family trips and vacations with school holidays.
By working together, we can create a school environment where every student thrives. Let's make consistent attendance and punctuality a priority for the benefit of all!

En Crestwood ES, nuestro objetivo es fomentar un entorno de aprendizaje brillante para todos los estudiantes. Sabemos que la asistencia regular juega un papel crucial en el éxito académico, e incluso faltar solo dos días al mes puede afectar el aprendizaje. Es por eso que hacemos un llamado a su asociación para priorizar la asistencia durante el segundo semestre.
Nuestro increíble personal de la escuela está haciendo un seguimiento activo de la asistencia y abordando las inquietudes cuidadosamente. Si bien estamos progresando, todavía hay margen de mejora. Recuerde que el Departamento de Educación de Virginia define el ausentismo crónico como la ausencia del 10% (18 días) o más del año escolar, independientemente de la razón. Valentine's Day Celebrations
Teachers will be reaching out if they are having Valentine’s Day festivities. We are asking that parents follow these guidelines for the class celebration:
- Please contact your child’s teacher to check on types of allergies before purchasing snacks.
- No homemade snacks allowed.
- Balloons of any kind are not allowed (no bouquets, arches, or single balloons).
- Please send enough Valentine treats for the entire class.

Superintendent to Present FY 2025 Proposed Budget
Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid will present the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Proposed Budget at the School Board meeting on Thursday, February 8, at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Reid’s presentation, as well as other budget documents, will be available after she presents to the board.

Want to know if your child's bus is on schedule or where the bus is? Here Comes the Bus® is an easy-to-use website and app that enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus — almost in real time — on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.
Parents can track multiple buses if their children don’t all ride the same bus; know exactly when children arrive at school or the bus stop; and receive customized text and/or email notifications about bus locations, schedule changes, or delays.
