Bingo Night Pic

From the Principal's Den

Last week concluded with our gym and cafeteria filled with hundreds of our FHES ‘Fox Family’ who came out for Bingo Night. It was a really fun evening with lots of pizza and prizes.  Best of all, it was great to come together and enjoy the food and games as a community.  Learning happens best in community and so does having fun!  Thank you to all staff and parent volunteers who helped to organize and facilitate this fundraiser for our sixth-grade class.

This week is National School Counseling week.  We would like to highlight Ms. McLenithan, school counselor, and Ms. Baker, school social worker, for all their contributions to the FHES community.  Learn more about school counseling in FCPS here.

This Wednesday is Crossing Guard Appreciation Day.  If you use the crosswalk in front of FHES, be sure to say thank you to Mrs. Whitehead for all she does to keep our families safe.

We can also extend our appreciation to Mrs. Whitehead through the safe practices we observe each day at arrival and dismissal.  Please be mindful of using the designated crosswalks when crossing the street.  We have many vehicles that use the ‘Kiss and Ride’ line at FHES.  Being vigilant and aware of pedestrian safety when driving or parking keeps our crosswalks accessible and safer.  It takes a village – thank you for the collective efforts and contributions to ensure we have a safer community.

February is also a celebration of Black History Month.  I would like to encourage everyone to make this month a time to both reflect and share personal stories on the contributions of black educators, leaders, mentors, family or community members who have made a positive impact in your life.  If you would like to share a story or recognition for Black History Month with us, please do so here

History comes alive through sharing personal stories within community.  In the words of the poet Lucille Clifton, “won’t you celebrate with me?”

All the best,
Lawrence Caines

Here Come the Bus

Here Comes the Bus

Want to know if your child’s bus is on schedule or where the bus is? Here Comes the Bus® is an easy-to-use website and app that enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus —  almost in real-time — on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.

Parents can track multiple buses if their children don’t all ride the same bus; know exactly when children arrive at school or the bus stop; and receive customized text and/or email notifications about bus locations, schedule changes, or delays.

To get started, download the app from the Apple iOS or Android app store. Check out the Here Comes the Bus and Frequently Asked Questions webpages for more information.

Already using the Here Comes the Bus app? Send your feedback to HCTB@fcps.edu.

Note: eNotify text messaging will continue to be used for reporting bus delays and bus incidents.

Clothes Needed

Clothing Donations Needed

Our Family Liaison maintains a small inventory of clothing in all sizes for students who may need a replacement item during the school day.  We are currently in need of the following gently used items:

  • Boys long pants sizes 7-12
  • Girls long pants (non-leggings) sizes 4 and 10/12

Please do not send adult-sized clothing.  Contact Christina Schauss (caschauss@fcps.edu) with any questions.

Thank you, we appreciate your contributions!

Volunteers Needed

Cafeteria Volunteers Welcomed

Looking for a way to volunteer at the school, but only have 30 minutes during your lunchbreak to make it work? Then do we have the opportunity for you.

We're looking for parent/grandparent/guardian volunteers to come help in the cafeteria during the students lunch break. Volunteers will support our two cafeteria hostesses Celina and Acxa.
