Dear GBE Families,
The first half of the school year is over! As we reflect halfway through the school year, we have so much to celebrate! I want to personally thank each family for prioritizing school attendance this school year. We are very close to reaching our goal of maintaining less than 15% of our total students identified as chronically absent by June. We are currently at 16%. Last year at this time, 23% of our students were chronically absent. We are proud of the progress we’ve made as a school community and I believe we will reach our goal this school year!
I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the PTA for providing our staff lunch last Friday during the Teacher Work Day. Thank you to Fleur de Cuisine for the delicious food! We have a fantastic PTA and we are grateful for their dedication to appreciating our staff!
I hope families can join our next Partner with the Principal tomorrow, Thursday, February 1st at 8:00 am in the library. You can RSVP here. We will be discussing our School Improvement and Innovation Plan and our plans around our upcoming GBE Night. We’d love to hear your feedback!
GBE Night will be a celebration of family favorites through food, performances, interactive activities, and/or shared experiences of our students and their families on Thursday, February 22nd. If you would like to share during this event, please sign up here. We want to learn more about your family! We have welcomed many new GBE families this school year and this event will provide an opportunity for families to build connections with each other. We currently have 962 students with 40 different languages represented in our one school community! What a gift for our students to grow and learn at GBE. Let’s celebrate together as #OneGBE on February 22nd! We hope you can join us to share about your family or come to learn more about our extraordinary school.

¡La primera mitad del año escolar ha terminado! Mientras reflexionamos a mitad del año escolar, ¡tenemos mucho que celebrar! Quiero agradecer personalmente a cada familia por priorizar la asistencia a la escuela este año escolar. Estamos muy cerca de alcanzar nuestra meta de mantener menos del 15% de nuestro total de estudiantes identificados como ausentes para el mes de junio. Actualmente estamos en el 16%. Today's Attendance rate is 83.8%
As of today, students enrolled at the beginning of the school year that have missed 8 or fewer days of school are helping us reach our goal of 85% (percentage of students not chronically absent). Thank you for making regular school attendance a priority! We love dancing our way out of the building on Fridays at dismissal when our overall chronic absenteeism rate is below 15%!

Use PickUp Patrol to report absences
In emergencies, email or call the front office
This is a reminder to put your students' absence, arriving late, or leaving school early in Pickup Patrol (PUP). All default plans should be up to date. Make sure you change the default plan anytime you change your students' permanent dismissal. Emails and phone calls are no longer encouraged, except for emergencies. When you enter a change in PUP, it goes directly to your child’s teacher as well as our front office staff. Please remember to provide a reason for the absence, late arrival or early dismissal. Changes must be entered on PUP by 2:30pm each day. If you need assistance setting up your PickUp Patrol account, please reach out to Adriana Barreto at 703-633-6400 or aabarreto@fcps.edu.
