Haycock Hello 2.5.24

kids

Dear Haycock Families,

Did you catch our 4th graders on WTOP this past week? If not, here is the article posted on the WTOP website. All six of our 4th grade classes are excited (and maybe a little nervous) about performing their speeches at Ford's Theater on February 6. This has been a wonderful learning opportunity for our students, both learning about the historical context of each of the speeches they are performing, as well as honing the skills aligned with being a clear communicator.

We are looking forward to our 6th graders presenting their research for National History Day on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 8.  The schedule for these presentations was sent to 6th grade parents. This has been a rich and rigorous research project for all our 6th graders.

Finally, thank you to the PTA and especially Ms. Leah Socha for a wonderful Bingo Night on Friday.  It was a fun family evening for all those in attendance.  Congratulations to our hover board winners!

Please join us this week in honoring our amazing school counselors and our fantastic crossing guard.

With appreciation for your partnership,

Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu

Heather Boyd, AP  HABoyd@fcps.edu

Jody Delaney, AP  jmdelaney@fcps.edu

Lunar New Year

“Wishing you health and prosperity in the New Year!

Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays among East and Southeast Asian cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean communities, as well as and many others.

It is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar, which begins on Feb 10, 2024 this year. The number of celebration days with different names varies depending on the country. China’s Lunar New Year is known as the Spring Festival, or Chūnjié in Mandarin, while Koreans call the holiday Seollal and Vietnamese, Tết.

Lunar New Year is a celebration of community. During this time, families gather to eat feasts and practice cultural traditions. We encourage you to explore the following ways to learn more and celebrate Lunar New Year with your family.
