Attendance Reminders

attendance

If you need to submit an absence of any kind, you can use one of the following three methods 24 hours a day.

Absences: If a child is not present, and the school has not received a call or email from the family reporting the absence, a “robocall” and email follow-up will be sent to confirm the absence.

Family Trips: We encourage family trips during scheduled school vacations.  We discourage such trips during the school year because these extended absences interrupt sequential learning in many subject areas.  Please note that we do not provide schoolwork in advance for students who will be away from school. It is critical to your child’s success that they are in school daily and on time.

Release of students during the day: Please alert your teacher and the front office if you will be picking up your child early.  We will not allow a student to walk home alone during the school day, nor will we release your child to anyone not on the emergency care card without an email.

Recurring Appointments – Recurring appointments should not be scheduled during the school day as this has an impact on student learning. Additional information about attendance can be found in the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) handbook.

Written Communication - We prefer electronic communications when possible.

2/21 Special Ed. Transition Planning

Future Planning for Elementary and Middle School Students in Special Education

For families, caregivers, and educators of students receiving special education services. *English speakers of other languages: We have language support for you.*

Join Career and Transition Services (CTS) to learn about planning for life in and after high school! It’s never too early or too late to start preparing for your future. We want to help you start planning for a successful transition from school to life as a young adult.

Ensuring postsecondary success of our students with disabilities is dependent on what is known as transition planning. Please join CTS and other support service personnel for an evening focused on planning for the future.

You will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of representatives from CTS programs and services for students with disabilities, as well as learn about short and long-term postsecondary supports, employment and postsecondary education considerations, Supported Decision Making, and student self-determination as an evidence-based predictor of post school success.

February 21, 2024 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Luther Jackson Middle School

3020 Gallows Road Falls Church, Virginia 22042

This event also includes a student/parent panel where members describe their firsthand experiences as they navigated Fairfax County Public Schools and planning for their child’s future. A questions/answer session will follow.
