Annie Ray Wins 2024 GRAMMY Music Educator Award!

Annie Ray, Orchestra Teacher at Annandale High School, wins the 2024 GRAMMY Music Educator Award! Click here to read the full FCPS article.

This annual honor recognizes current educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the music education field and who also demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in schools. Annie was selected from more than 2,000 initial nominations submitted from across all 50 U.S. states. She will receive a $10,000 honorarium and matching grant for Annandale’s music program.

There is no one more deserving of this honor. Her commitment to bringing music into the lives of all students, regardless of age or ability, has carried an impact throughout Atom Nation. Annie routinely hosts events that bring the entire Annandale community together. Just last week she hosted Pizza & Pizzicato, where close to 400 Strings and Orchestra students from the Annandale feeder schools came to AHS to perform in two back-to-back concerts. Each season, she prepares the musicians of Atom Nation for concerts that feature all of the Annandale Orchestras, including Crescendo, which includes our CAT B students, and our Parent Orchestra, which helps parents learn instruments alongside their child.

We have highlighted Annie’s incredible impact many times, especially her work with our students with severe disabilities. If you have not seen her Ted Talk, The Sound of Success, the FCPS feature It's Never Too Late: Parent Orchestra Teaches New Skills and Brings Families Closer Together, or read this Washington Post article, I encourage you to take a few minutes to check them out. She truly is an inspiration, and we are so proud of her.

Check out the announcement below, which aired earlier this morning on CBS Mornings with Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson and be sure to watch the 2024 GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, February 4 at 8:00pm on CBS.
