The Principals' POSITIVE Press

Happy Friday CES Community,

It is hard to believe that this was only the second POSITIVE 5 day week of 2024! As we move towards a more consistent schedule we want to reinforce the importance of POSITIVE student attendance. Regular attendance can help students be successful in the classroom, graduate on time, and achieve their POSITIVE life goals. If students miss too much school, school staff may contact families to work with them to POSITIVELY support improved attendance. Visit our website for more attendance resources. Over the next week CES will be sending out 'State of Attendance Letters' for all POSITIVE students. The purpose of these letters is for awareness. We feel it is incredibly important for all students to be at CES as much as possible. If you have any POSITIVE questions please reach out to Mr. Douds at jtdouds@fcps.edu.

Next week, CES will offer two POSITIVE family events. On Monday at 8:15am we will have Family Fitness 4 a Cause in the gym. At the last POSITIVE session we had a great time. We are hoping additional families join in for the POSITIVE fun! Tuesday night will be our first Literacy Glow Night. Join the CES staff for some POSITIVE glow fun focused on literacy. We are looking forward to identifying who has the best neon outfit!

Kindergarten Orientation will be offered on:

Tuesday, June 4 from 9:30am – 12pm.

The Orientation is for registered families only. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This will be an opportunity for you and your child to meet the teachers, take a bus ride, and learn more about the school.  Staff will review the curriculum and discuss transition into Kindergarten.

If you know anyone who has a rising kindergartener, please encourage them to begin registration as soon as possible. Notifying our office of your intent to register or complete registration helps our school secure staffing for the upcoming school year.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please contact our Registrar, Jenny Kim, at jhkim4@fcps.edu or call 703-502-3501.

SPRING SEL Screener

The Spring Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3-6 between February 26-March 15. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. More information is available about the SEL Screener by accessing this link:

https://www.fcps.edu/student-tests-and-assessments/student-assessment-details/social-emotional-screener

If you have any questions please reach out to our SEL Screener Lead Laura Walsh at LFWalsh@fcps.edu or Assistant Principal Jennifer Killingsworth at jkillingswor@fcps.edu.
