Dear Poplar Tree Families,
It is hard to believe we’re already halfway through the school year. Time flies when you’re having fun and working hard!
The first half of the school year has been amazing, and it’s all thanks to the incredible efforts of our students, teachers, staff, and parents. We’ve got a fantastic second half ahead of us.
We are especially excited about our upcoming House Meetings next week. It’s will be an awesome opportunity for us to come together and continue building the strong sense of community that makes Poplar Tree so special.

💡Uniquely YOU Spotlight 💡
As we are helping ensure everyone at Poplar Tree has the opportunity to celebrate their uniqueness, we also want to highlight what makes our staff members unique! This week's spotlight is on our Spanish Teachers - Sra. Velasquez and Ms. Monica!

Next week we will be having full house morning meetings. During this time all members of each house will be gathering in the morning to connect as an entire house! We will also review the ways in which we can be ethical and global citizens in the hallway and throughout our day! Ask your child if they have earned a pink or purple ticket this week!
On the day of their meeting, we would like each Poplar Tree panther to wear their house t-shirts!

- Monday, January 29: GREEN House
- Tuesday, January 30: RED House
- Thursday, February 1: YELLOW House
- Friday, February 2: BLUE House
It's time for another round of YOU-seum sign-ups!
Does your student have a cool collection, awesome art, terrific trophies, lotsa Lego builds, or anything else they’d love to share with the school? Introducing the YOU-seum! In line with our school motto this year, “Uniquely You,” the display cases next to the front office and at the top of the stairs are being dedicated to showcasing all the ways Poplar Tree Panthers are unique and special. Every two weeks, 3 students will be able to curate a collection of items they want to show off! Grown-ups can sign their student up for one slot on a first-come, first-served basis. Please do not sign up if your students has already been a curator this year. Students may also collaborate if they choose. New sign-ups will be released at the beginning of the fourth quarter so if your student didn’t get a space this time, there will be another opportunity later in the year. Click HERE to sign up!
🍭 Purchase a Lolligram! 🍭
Lolligrams flyers came home in Friday folders last week! Pre-orders are accepted until February 6 and they will also be sold in the lobby before school from January 30 through February 2.
Grown ups interested in sending a lolligram to their child can do so by filling out THIS GOOGLE FORM!
Calling All Picture-Perfect Moments!
Let's make this year's yearbook truly special by including YOUR cherished moments! Whether it's a beaming smile during a classroom project, a heartwarming friendship captured on the playground, or any other delightful school-related memory, we want to feature it in our pages. Please share your favorite photos using THIS FORM by February 16, 2023, and let's create a yearbook that reflects the incredible experiences of our students.

Our PTA's fundraising efforts include giving the school grants for supplies. While most supplies are not big or flashy, they are greatly appreciated!

What is CTE Summer Enrichment?
- Hands-on, exploratory enrichment programs
- Teaches students engaging and exciting content in Career and Technical Education (CTE) program areas
- Helps students make connections to careers and develop new skills
2024 Programs:

Tech Adventure Camp: Current Kindergarten - grade 5 students explore STEAM, culinary, health, trades, business, and marketing by rotating through daily classes

CTE Summer Academy: Current grade 6 - 11 students choose their classes and dive deeper into CTE program areas, skills, and career exploration
- NEW TO 2024: Current 6th grade (rising 7th grade) students will be eligible for CTE Summer Academy instead of Tech Adventure Camp

🐝Sign-up is open for the Spelling Bee🐝
The Poplar Tree PTA has been planning for a successful spelling bee program for 2023-2024. Poplar Tree is proud to offer students an opportunity to exhibit their proficiency in the art of spelling and, just as importantly, vocabulary. The school Spelling Bee Champion will advance to the Fairfax County regional competition. The regional winner will go to the Scripps National Spelling Bee representing Fairfax County.
The registration deadline is 01/31/24.

Welcoming all PTES singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, musicians, and more!
Acts will be limited to 2 minutes each. All interested participants, please complete THIS FORM.
Then, mark your calendars for these important dates:
- Monday, Feburary 26 @ 7pm: Parent Info session on Zoom (Zoom Link)
- Friday, March 8 - Provide any background music to be played in the show
- Wednesday, March 13 @ 3:30 pm - Rehearsal
- Friday, March 15 @ 6pm: The Talent Show!
