Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well.  As we conclude the second quarter, I am delighted to share the tremendous efforts our students have put into their studies.  Each day, they strive to be the best versions of themselves in the classroom.

As we embark on the third quarter marking period starting this Monday, I want to emphasize the importance of our continued partnership in your child’s education.  Your support is invaluable, and I encourage you to motivate your children to engage in iXL and Lexia at home, reinforcing their learning beyond the school walls.

A major focus this academic year has been on student attendance.  Regular attendance is crucial for academic success, and I urge you to ensure that your child is present in the classroom every day.  To promote this, we initiated a campaign throughout January, challenging our students to achieve perfect attendance from January 2nd to January 25th.

I am thrilled to announce that those who accomplished this feat will be rewarded with an Atten”Dance” after school on February 1st.  To attend, students will need to RSVP.  More details about the Atten”Dance” are provided below.

Additionally, our After-School Program is back on track, offering various extracurricular opportunities for your students.  We hope they take advantage of these activities to enhance their overall school experience.

As we look forward to the second half of the school year, I want to express my gratitude for your continued support.  Your involvement and commitment play a vital role in our collective efforts to nurture a thriving educational environment.

Thank you, and let’s make the remainder of the school year a success together.

Warm regards,

John Flowers, M. ED.

Atten"Dance"

Hello Whitman Families!

Students that had perfect attendance from January 2-January 25 are invited to an AttenDANCE next Thursday, February 1 at Whitman during our After School Program from 2:15-4:45 pm. Students who met the attendance criteria will be receiving an email tomorrow with an RSVP form that they must fill out by Tuesday, January 30 by 2:15 pm. If they do not fill out the form received via their FCPS gmail account by 2:15 pm they will not be able to attend the dance.

The AttenDANCE will take place after school, both blocks from 2:15-4:45 pm. The After School Program late busses will be provided so transportation is taken care of. If students would like a parent/guardian to pick them up, Kiss and Ride will be at the front of the school at 4:30 pm. Students will not need to sign up for After School the day of the dance. We'll be sending an RSVP Google form via email to all those students who have met the attendance criteria and are invited to attend this Friday, January 26. Students must fill out the Google Form by Tuesday, January 30 end of school day (2:15 pm) in order to attend.

Pizza, snacks, water and juice will be provided. A live DJ will be present and students can use this form to request a song they want to hear!

During lunch the day of the dance, Thursday, February 1, students will receive a wristband. They will need this wristband to enter the dance. This wristband has to be on their wrist and not broken in any way to enter the dance.

Students will stay with their 7th period teacher the day of the dance and then their teacher will escort them down to the Lecture Hall to attend the dance.

We encourage parent/guardian volunteers to help with food, setup and clean up if available! Please contact Phoebe Dillard (pfdillard@fcps.edu) or Cassie Lawlor (clawlor@fcps.edu) if interested!
