Good evening, Franklin Community,

As you know, we have officially wrapped up the first half of the school year!  I am so proud of what our students have accomplished and am in awe of the growth they have exhibited thus far.  We have seen incredible academic gains, as well as overall improvements with student behavior.  I encourage you to take a moment this weekend to reflect with your child on their successes, as well as their goals for the second half of the year.  I want to take a moment to thank you for your partnership with us and I look forward to that continued partnership this year and beyond.

As we move into the second semester, your child's schedule may alter as a result of new semester electives.  Please take a look at Parentvue/Studentvue to see any changes.  School staff members will be available first thing Monday morning to support any student who is unsure of where to report or how to find their updated schedule.

And lastly, just a friendly reminder of our SpongeBob performances, which begin tonight!  My family and I are excited to catch opening night tonight and celebrate the hard work done by our students.

As always, please reach out to me at MLCase@fcps.edu with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Michelle Case

Interim Principal

Anti-Vaping Campaign

The National PTA, and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids are committed to educating youth, parents, school boards and local officials about the dangers of e-cigarettes and other tobacco products.  Your PTSA is running its own campaign beginning this February!

At our next general meeting on February 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the Chantilly HS Library, we will host a guest speaker on the topic of tobacco use and vaping among our youth.  Stacey King is a licensed clinical social worker and the substance abuse prevention specialist for the Chantilly Pyramid.

You must be 18 or older to attend.  Ms. King will discuss the harms of tobacco use and vaping and will provide information about the latest trends in tobacco/vape use in our community.  She will also talk about ways parents can initiate productive conversations with their children.  There will be time for a question-and-answer session, and literature will be available in both English and Spanish.  Light refreshments and student-provided childcare will be provided.

National Mentoring Month

Imagine a world where young people feel empowered, encouraged, and understood.  Mentors can make that world a reality by helping young people find and follow their passions, excel in school, and thrive wherever they are. Learn more about Mentoring Month.

Research has shown that young people with at least one trusted mentor are less likely to skip school, less likely to use illegal drugs or drink alcohol, and more prepared to enter college or the workforce.  Yet one in three children lack a mentor.

All it takes is one person to serve as a trusted adult to help change a young person’s path in life.  Mentors provide attention, support, and enrichment, and help connect their mentees to resources that may help them on their journey in life.

FCPS’ MentorWorks program matches mentors with students in schools near where they live or work.  They meet for at least 30 minutes a week.  Learn more about how to become a mentor for an FCPS student.  Please contact Martha Macdonald, mentoring specialist, for additional information at mmacdonald@fcps.edu
