What an amazing end to Quarter 2! This week we had our FREE Family Food Market where we served at least 150 families in our community. Everyone enjoyed coming to get the food and our volunteers welcomed our guest with a smile! Thank you for continuing to make this much needed monthly event happen at Bucknell!
Last night was our Family Spotlight Series which focused on math! Our Instructional Leadership Team featured an informative session around how math looks in the classroom and how families might support their students at home. We had over 20 families join us on Zoom! We look forward to even more families next month!
Lastly, today our students joined as a school community to engage in our school-wide Morning Meeting. Morning Meeting is an opportunity for us to build relationships with students and for them to build relationships with one another. Our oldest Bulldogs partnered with our youngest Bulldogs to make this a success! As a school we participated in the Greeting, Share and Activity. What a way to come together as a community!
As a reminder, we have no school on Friday, January 26th because it is a Teacher Workday. SACC will be open and operate on the regular schedule. We hope that you enjoy another long weekend!

¡Qué final tan increíble para el segundo trimestre! Esta semana tuvimos nuestro Mercado de Alimentos Familiares GRATIS donde servimos al menos a 150 familias en nuestra comunidad. ¡Todos disfrutaron viniendo a buscar la comida y nuestros voluntarios dieron la bienvenida a nuestros invitados con una sonrisa! ¡Gracias por seguir haciendo realidad este evento mensual tan necesario en Bucknell!
¡Anoche fue nuestra serie Family Spotlight que se centró en las matemáticas! Nuestro Equipo de Liderazgo Instruccional presentó una sesión muy informativa sobre cómo se ven las matemáticas en el aula y cómo las familias pueden apoyar a sus estudiantes en casa. ¡Más de 20 familias se unieron a nosotros en Zoom! ¡Esperamos aún más familias el próximo mes!
Por último, hoy nuestros estudiantes se unieron como comunidad escolar para participar en nuestra reunión matutina de toda la escuela. La reunión matutina es una oportunidad para que el personal establezca relaciones con los estudiantes y para que ellos establezcan relaciones entre sí. ¡Nuestros Bulldogs más antiguos se asociaron con nuestros Bulldogs más jóvenes para que esto fuera un éxito! Como colegio participamos en el Saludo, Compartir y Actividad. ¡Qué manera de unirnos como comunidad!
Como recordatorio, no tenemos clases el viernes 26 de enero porque es un día de trabajo para maestros. SACC estará abierto y operará en el horario regular. ¡Esperamos que disfrutéis de otro fin de semana largo!

Quarter End, Early Release, and Student Holiday
Thursday, January 25, is the last day of the quarter and a two-hour early release for students. Also, schools are closed for students on Friday, January 26, for a teacher work day. See the complete school year calendar.

TJ TECHSTRAVAGANZA 2024
Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is hosting their 20th Annual TECHSTRAVAGANZA. TJHSST Techstravaganza is a FREE hands-on STEM fair that attracts thousands of attendees from the DMV area every year. Over 300 TJ student and teacher volunteers engage students in STEM activities, which include lava lamps, banana DNA extraction, robotics, rocketry demonstrations, programming workshops, and other STEM exhibits. The event will take place in-person at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (see map) on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Registration is free. TJHSST is providing free transportation to make the event more accessible to students. More information about the even can be found at http://tjtechstrav.org./.

La Escuela Secundaria de Ciencia y Tecnología Thomas Jefferson organiza su vigésima edición anual de TECHSTRAVAGANZA. TJHSST Techstravaganza es una feria práctica GRATUITA de STEM que atrae a miles de asistentes del área del DMV cada año. Más de 300 estudiantes y maestros voluntarios de TJ involucran a los estudiantes en actividades STEM, que incluyen lámparas de lava, extracción de ADN de plátano, robótica, demostraciones de cohetes, talleres de programación y otras exhibiciones STEM. El evento se llevará a cabo en persona en la Escuela Secundaria de Ciencia y Tecnología Thomas Jefferson (ver mapa) el sábado 18 de mayo de 2024 de 10 a. m. a 4 p. m.

West Potomac Girls Basketball: Youth Night Game
 On behalf of the entire West Potomac Girls Basketball Staff and all our players, we would like to invite all Bucknell students, players, staff, and community to attend our "Youth Night" event on Friday, January 26th at West Potomac High School. All 3 levels (Freshman, JV, and Varsity) will compete against Woodson High School, with games being held at 4:30, 5:45, and 7:30. There will be lots of free giveaways, chances to win prizes, and an opportunity to meet the Varsity team after the final game of the night. This has been a great event for us in the past and we hope to have a big crowd in attendance again this year!

National Mentoring Month
 Imagine a world where young people feel empowered, encouraged, and understood. Mentors can make that world a reality by helping young people find and follow their passions, excel in school, and thrive wherever they are.Learn more about Mentoring Month.
Research has shown that young people with at least one trusted mentor are less likely to skip school, less likely to use illegal drugs or drink alcohol, and more prepared to enter college or the workforce. Yet one in three children lack a mentor.
All it takes is one person to serve as a trusted adult to help change a young person’s path in life. Mentors provide attention, support, and enrichment, and help connect their mentees to resources that may help them on their journey in life.
FCPS’ MentorWorks program matches mentors with students in schools near where they live or work. They meet for at least 30 minutes a week. Learn more about how to become a mentor for an FCPS student.
