6th Grade Promotion Ceremony - June 11th
We are already planning for the end of the school year! We can't wait to celebrate all of the hard work of our 6th Graders before they head off to middle school.
FPCS is offering two camps this summer. Registration begins tomorrow, February 1st. The cost is $275/week and both camps are offered July 8-26th
Thank you to our Strings teachers, Mrs. Holly Taylor and Mrs. Tori Field, and our 4th grade strings students for a wonderful concert last week.
Growth is a foundational part of education, and FCPS believes that every student should have the opportunity to reflect on their yearly growth of Portrait of a Graduate skills. Portrait of a Graduate Presentations of Learning (POG POL) are an opportunity to reflect and create a portfolio of evidence where students share “I grew, I can prove it, and here’s why it matters.” This can take a variety of forms such as a one-on-one or small group conversation, an exhibition (similar to science fair), or a formal student-led presentation with follow-up questions. This year at Oak Hill, all students K-6 are working on collecting evidence of their growth around Portrait of a Graduate Skills and will have a formal POG POL at the end of the year. As part of the preparation and learning for this, students are all assigned a POG Buddy who they meet with each quarter to share their learning. Last week we had our 2nd quarter POG Buddy Day and the halls and classrooms were a buzz with students sharing and talking about what they are growing in and the evidence they have to support it.
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS. Learn more about Black History month.
February 5-9 is National School Counseling Week, and highlights the tremendous impact school counselors have in helping students achieve academic success and planning for a career.School counselors work with students in a variety of different capacities, whether it is through classroom lessons, group sessions, or individual counseling. Learn more about the role of school counselors in FCPS.
Oak Hill's counselors are Mr. Andy Mitchell and Mr. Greg Frantz.
Ways to Recognize our counselors:
- Take a moment to write a thank you note. Share specific ways your counselor has helped you or your child.
- Draw a picture expressing your gratitude.
We need your help in projecting Kindergarten enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year. Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2024, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.
If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2024, please complete this form and return it to Oak Hill ES by March 15th. If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are also trying to reach those Oak Hill neighborhood families who do not have children currently attending school.
Please email the completed form to Katherine Dillard, our registrar, at kjdillard1@fcps.edu.
