Principal's Message
Dear Crestwood Families,
We are thrilled about this coming week as we have exciting things planned for our students and families! First, we have our Attendance Spirit Week this week. We love celebrating our students who are at school every day! Classes can win prizes just by coming to school (extra recess, popcorn party, dance party, etc...).
- The grade level that has the highest attendance percentage in January will earn an extra 30-minute recess supervised by the administrative team.
- In February, we will be having weekly Attendance Raffles. Each student who is at school for the entire week will have a chance to win a gift card for their family!
Regular attendance is crucial for our students' academic success and social development.
This Wednesday, January 24 will be our third parent coffee and we are thrilled to receive a visit from Officer Rosa who will share information about opioid awareness and prevention.
Wednesday night, we will also have one of my favorite nights of the year: Camping Literacy Night! Come learn more about evidence-based literacy practices to help kids read at home, spend time reading, enjoying some of the activities we have planned and grab some free pizza!
Finally, last week we had our first school wide assembly of the year. The assembly gave us an opportunity to support our students and encourage the best behavior at school, especially in the ways we treat and respond to others. We shared with our students that hateful words that are derogatory and insulting towards any group will not be tolerated at Crestwood Elementary. No one is exempt and permitted to use slurs that offend and discriminate against people because of who they are. The admin team will be sharing more information with families about our plan to partner with the community to eliminate hateful language and slurs at Crestwood ES.
We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday and seeing our families on Tuesday!

¡Estamos entusiasmados con la próxima semana, ya que tenemos cosas emocionantes planeadas para nuestros estudiantes y familias! Primero, tenemos nuestra Semana del Espíritu de Asistencia. ¡Nos encanta celebrar a nuestros estudiantes que asisten a la escuela todos los días! Las clases pueden ganar premios solo por venir a la escuela (recreo extra, fiesta de palomitas, fiesta de baile, etc.).
- El grado que tenga el mayor porcentaje de asistencia en enero ganará un receso adicional de 30 minutos supervisado por el equipo administrativo.
- En febrero, tendremos rifas semanales de asistencia. ¡Cada estudiante que esté en la escuela durante toda la semana tendrá la oportunidad de ganar una tarjeta de regalo para su familia!
La asistencia regular es crucial para el éxito académico y el desarrollo social de nuestros estudiantes.
Este miercoles 24 de enero será nuestro tercer café para padres y estamos encantados de recibir la visita del oficial Rosa, quien compartirá información sobre la concientización y prevención de drogas.
El miercoles por la noche, también tendremos una de mis noches favoritas del año: ¡Campamento y Noche de Lectura! ¡Ven a aprender más sobre las prácticas de alfabetización basadas en evidencia para ayudar a los niños a leer en casa, pasar tiempo leyendo, disfrutar de algunas de las actividades que hemos planificado y comer pizza gratis!
Finalmente, la semana pasada tuvimos nuestra primera asamblea escolar del año. La asamblea nos dio la oportunidad de apoyar a nuestros estudiantes y fomentar el mejor comportamiento en la escuela, especialmente en la forma en que tratamos y respondemos a los demás. Compartimos con nuestros estudiantes que las palabras de odio que son despectivas e insultantes hacia cualquier grupo no serán toleradas en la Escuela Crestwood. Nadie está exento y se le permite usar insultos que ofendan y discriminen a las personas por ser quienes son. El equipo de administración compartirá más información con las familias sobre nuestro plan de asociarnos con la comunidad para eliminar el lenguaje de odio y los insultos en Crestwood ES.

- IN-PERSON visit with the Key middle school counselors presenting Course Information & Registration directly to our students.
- Key counselors will bring the course registration form and explain the registration process. These forms must be returned by February 16, 2024
Course Request Deadlines: Friday, February 23, 2024
- Students will work with their counselor and 6th grade teacher to complete course requests electronically by February 23, 2024.
Spring Visit - 6th grade comes to Key Middle School: Week of April 15 -19, 2024.
- Parent permission required for Key MS visit.

Opioid Awareness
What Families Can Do to Fight Drug Misuse
FCPS is committed to raising awareness about the opioid epidemic with our educators, parents/caregivers, and students. Together, we can help ensure our students thrive.
What can families do?
- Show you disapprove of underage drinking and other drug misuse. More than 80% of young people ages 10-18 say their parents are the leading influence on their decision whether to drink.
- Show you care about your child’s health, wellness, and success.
- Show you are a good source of information about alcohol and other drugs. Find helpful resources on the FCPS Opioid Awareness webpage.
- Pay attention to your child and discourage risky behaviors.
- Build your child’s skills and strategies for avoiding drinking and drug use. Talk with your child about what they would do if faced with a decision about alcohol and drugs, such as texting a code word to a family member or practicing how they will say, “No thanks.”
