Lunch & Learn Family Meeting – January 26th

On Friday January 26th we will have a Teacher Work Day (Student Holiday – No School).  However, we will be hosting a very important meeting for all families who benefit from Free/Reduced Meals and other programs that assist our community.

On Friday January 26th Please join us from 12:30-2:00 for our Lunch & Learn Family Meeting.  A taco bar lunch will be provided from 12:30-1:00 for all family members.  We will send students to the gym from 1:00-2:00 to play so parents can learn about Free Meals and other important programs/benefits for next year.  Parents will have time to sign up for some of these programs/benefits and consult with representatives who can help with this paperwork and process.

Next year Title I status will depend upon schools’ CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) numbers, NOT Free/Reduced numbers.  As you know our Title I status is incredibly important for us to maintain funds that support staffing, student/staff resources, field trips, school supplies, books, technology, and the list goes on.  CEP numbers are determined by the number of families enrolled in the following: SNAP/TANF/Medicaid or Homeless Status, or Foster Care Status.  In order to ensure our families are aware of these benefits and enroll in these programs, we will be hosting this Lunch & Learn Info Session for all families interested in learning more about these programs.  If families qualify for and can benefit from these programs, we need them to sign up!  This is incredibly important for family benefits and a number of things TLES counts on that this funding supports.

PTA JANUARY MEETING AND KIDS REC NIGHT

Mark your calendars for January 24th at 6pm for our next PTA meeting. We’re interested to hear about your experiences with after school enrichment so far.  We will also have a school representative talk about how our kids are using technology at school and share a STEAM update!

Remember, you don’t have to be a dues-paying member to attend meetings. The more voices we can have present, the better! We love to have you.

*We’re still looking for volunteers to help with Kids Rec Night, which allows parents to drop off their kids in the gym during the meeting, and allows for kids to have some fun with friends! If you’re interested in helping to supervise kiddos during Rec Night please email board@timberlanepta.com.

What Families Can Do to Fight Drug Misuse

FCPS is committed to raising awareness about the opioid epidemic with our educators, parents/caregivers, and students. Together, we can help ensure our students thrive.

What can families do?

  • Show you disapprove of underage drinking and other drug misuse. More than 80% of young people ages 10-18 say their parents are the leading influence on their decision whether to drink.
  • Show you care about your child’s health, wellness, and success.
  • Show you are a good source of information about alcohol and other drugs. Find helpful resources on the FCPS Opioid Awareness webpage
  • Pay attention to your child and discourage risky behaviors.
  • Build your child’s skills and strategies for avoiding drinking and drug use. Talk with your child about what they would do if faced with a decision about alcohol and drugs, such as texting a code word to a family member or practicing how they will say, “No thanks.”

Visit the FCPS website for more information.

Stock the Closet: Clothing Drive

Sometimes kids need a change of clothes at school. A quick change of clothes can get them back to class and help them not miss out on valuable instruction time by needing to go home to change. Thank you, to everyone who has already donated in support of this cause! We are in need of pants. Check out this link for ideas:

💻Important Forms for Caregivers to Complete

During the first weeks of the year, caregivers receive many forms to complete. Several of the most important ones are below:

  1. Digital Resources Consent: Some FCPS-approved digital resources require parent/caregiver consent before they can be used by students. Find the list of resources which require consent on the Digital Resources - Parent Consent page. This page also includes directions on how to provide permission.
  2. Student Rights and Responsibilities: This document explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses. Parents using SIS ParentVUE will be prompted to sign the document when they log in to that platform. A printable version of the document with a signature sheet is available on the SR&R webpage.
  3. Opt-Outs: The Opt-Out Booklet is online or available from your child’s school. It contains information on:
    1. Parents’ rights to inspect and consent or opt out before their child participates in certain surveys.
    2. Parents’ rights to inspect instructional materials.
    3. Rules regarding student records and disclosure of student information (including photo/video of students) and the right to opt out.
    4. Parents’ rights to opt out of the Social Emotional Learning Screener, physical exams not required by state law, career or social emotional counseling, Library Equity Access Pass Project, and/or Tutor.com.
    5. The process by which complaints may be filed if parents or students believe their rights have been violated.

Paper forms can be signed and returned to school.
