Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Briggs

SHES events

Dear Panther Families,

I hope you have enjoyed another beautiful winter snow!

We had a fabulous fun-filled Bingo night last evening.  It was wonderful to see all of our families gathering together for food, fun and games.  Our community is what makes our school so special!

On Wednesday evening, I had the privilege of going to the Langley Pyramid winter themed Chorus Concert. They did a great job and it was a pleasure to see some of former students performing.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Amy Briggs

Winter Weather Reminders

In the event of a two – hour delay:

We will open doors for students starting at 10:30 a.m. with the late bell ringing at 10:50 a.m.  Please do not drop off your students prior to 10:30 a.m.

Cold Weather Recess Guidelines (All Grades)

During typical winter days, students will go outside during the winter months.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately (coat, boots, gloves, and hats) for outdoor weather.  Outdoor recess may be adjusted or cancelled depending on weather conditions.

How Cold is Too Cold to allow students to Play Outdoors?

  •         When the wind chill/”feels like” temperature is 25 degrees or higher, teachers are advised to take their students outside for recess.  Teachers of younger grades may make adjustments to this  based on student attire and current weather conditions.
  •         When the wind chill/”feels like” temperature is between 20-25 degrees, teachers may use their professional judgment, based on students’ attire (jackets, snow pants, boots, gloves, and hats) and current weather conditions in determining if students will go outside for recess.
  •         When the wind chill/”feels like” temperature is below 20 degrees, or there is any rain/sleet, teachers are advised to keep their students inside for recess.

Upcoming Dates

  • January 23-   4th Grade Orchestra Concert (6:30 pm, Cafeteria)
  • January 24-   3rd Grade performance (9:15 am, Cafeteria)
  • January 25-   Pep Rally (wear grade level t-shirts)
End of 2nd Quarter-2HR early release

FCPS School Year Calendar for 2023-24

snow

KEEP IN MIND! (fingers crossed?) SNOW DAYS: For the current school year, FCPS will be returning to its previous procedure for snow days — there will be no virtual learning days when school is closed due to bad weather. During snow days, students may still access Tutor.com, complete any supplemental learning opportunities recommended by their teachers, and view educational programming (available virtually and on public access television channels): Elementary school instruction: Red Apple 21. Eleven snow days are built into the existing FCPS calendar. Eliminating virtual learning days will allow us to maximize students’ in-person learning and provide equitable access to instruction and student services.
