Forestdale's Interim Principal

Falcon Families

Can you believe that we've already made it to the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year? It's an immense honor for me to serve as the Interim Principal of the Falcon community for the rest of the school year. As the Interim Principal my top priority is to ensure that our students continue to receive a high-quality education and feel supported in their academic and personal growth. To accomplish this goal, I'll be working tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of our school's operations is aligned and consistent, from daily routines to academic programs and extracurricular activities.

Consistency is key to creating a stable and predictable environment for our students, which is especially important during these challenging times. Therefore, I will continue to work closely with our staff and families to ensure that we are all aligned and working together towards the same goal of providing the best possible educational experience for our Falcon families. It is so exciting to think about all our Falcons will accomplish this year!

Warmly,

Dr. LaDonna Tate, Proud Interim Principal

A Note of Gratitude from Mrs. Cunneen

Falcon Family, you overwhelmed me with the most amazing and joyful sendoff on Tuesday!  Forestdale staff and students surprised me with my own "Eras Tour," and together we celebrated the end of a beautiful era together and the start of another.  I am immensely grateful to the students, staff, and families for your beautiful notes and kind words that touched my heart deeply, for the amazing and fun dance parties, the special gifts including the hundreds of bracelets the students made me (they feel I am ready to become a Swiftie! 😊), ALL the hugs (the best gift of all), and the tear-filled clap out that I will never ever forget.

You left me overwhelmed and deeply humbled as we said goodbye, which is how I felt every day for the last nine years serving you. I will never forget that special day, and I will never forget what a privilege it was being your principal and your family. It is something I never once took for granted.  As I start my next “era,” I will hold our students, staff, and families in my hearts and mind as I serve leaders across to division as they "take care of others and this place" as well.  Once a Falcon, always a Falcon!

With gratitude and love,

Mrs. Jenny Cunneen

National Mentoring Month

Mentoring

Imagine a world where young people feel empowered, encouraged, and understood. Mentors can make that world a reality by helping young people find and follow their passions, excel in school, and thrive wherever they are.Learn more about Mentoring Month.

Research has shown that young people with at least one trusted mentor are less likely to skip school, less likely to use illegal drugs or drink alcohol, and more prepared to enter college or the workforce. Yet one in three children lack a mentor.

All it takes is one person to serve as a trusted adult to help change a young person’s path in life. Mentors provide attention, support, and enrichment, and help connect their mentees to resources that may help them on their journey in life.

FCPS’ MentorWorks program matches mentors with students in schools near where they live or work. They meet for at least 30 minutes a week. Learn more about how to become a mentor for an FCPS student.
