Churchill Chatter - Issue 10, January 25, 2024

breakfast

Churchill Road teachers enjoying a delicious breakfast courtesy of the PTA.

Dear Churchill Road Families,

We are excited to be back at school after our first snow days in more than two years!  We hope that all of our families enjoyed their time together and all the beautiful snow we received. We were treated to a special breakfast by our fabulous PTA -- it was a big hit with everyone.

This week is a short week with the end of the quarter.   As a reminder, tomorrow (January 26) is a student holiday.  Next week, we begin our next round of grade level community conversations. And, our PTA will host a perennial favorite – Family Bingo Night – on Friday, February 2.  We hope to see many of you there.

We have had an overwhelmingly positive response to our Rise Against Hunger service learning initiative so far. To date, our third, fourth and sixth grades have near 100% participation and we have collected $3,028 toward our goal of $3,050.  We are so proud of our students for all their efforts.  Students have until Tuesday, January 31 to contribute.  Here are links for additional ways to support:

  • Rise Against Hunger is a Tax-deductible organization, and any funding families/businesses donate online towards our goal is tax-deductible. You may make your tax-deductible donation today at Langley Pyramid Rise Against Hunger 2024
  • If your company makes matching contributions, please consider having them join you in making a tax-deductible donation today at Langley Pyramid Rise Against Hunger 2024 and help us Rise Against Hunger.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Cherith Pierson-Barr and Ms. Jen Niccolls

Dates for each grade-level are as follows:

  • Kindergarten: January 29, 2024
  • 1st Grade: January 30, 2024
  • 2nd Grade: February 7, 2024
  • 3rd Grade: January 31, 2024
  • 4th Grade: February 2, 2024

We look forward to seeing you!

Character Strengths Focus

This week our school community is focusing on the character strength of Social Intelligence.

Social Intelligence - You are aware of other people’s thoughts and feelings. You understand why they do things.

To practice and encourage the character strengths with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions about these character strengths.
