The Cardinal Connection: CPES News Delivered to You

Dear Cardinal Families,

I hope you all had a chance to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday. His tireless fight for equality and justice continues to inspire us to build a stronger, more inclusive community. Let's carry his message of peace and understanding with us every day, especially within the walls of our school.

And what a way to start a new week than with a surprise snow day yesterday! Now, refreshed and recharged, let's embrace another wonderful week of learning and growing together.

Warmly,

Allison Hoak, Principal

Jon Kemmerer, Assistant Principal

Important Reminder Regarding Our Start Time

Our doors open each day at 8:20 am for breakfast. Students not eating breakfast are welcome to enter at 8:30 am.

On a 2-Hour Delay, we will open for breakfast at 10:20 am. Students not eating breakfast are welcome to enter at 10:30 am.

Please do not drop off or have your child walk to school early. Students who arrive early will need to wait outside Door 1 until our doors open. Thank you for sending your child to school on time.

POG

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing resources on how you can incorporate POG language at home. Consider these prompts as you listen to your child talk about their day.

I grew!

  • “What skills are you focusing on? How did the skill help you learn?”
  • “What did you learn? What was successful? What was challenging?”

I can prove it!

  • “When, specifically, did you use the skill? Can you show me how it helped?
  • “Why did you pick this to share?”
  • “Can you tell me more about . . ."

Here’s why it matters!

  • “Why is this skill important in other subjects?  When do you use this skill at home or in the community?”
  • “How could this skill be important in the future or as an adult?”

Schedule Change Next Week

As the quarter comes to a close next week, we will have a 2-hour early release at 1:20 pm on Thursday, January 25 and there will be a Teacher Workday, no school for students, on Friday, January 26

Food Rescue at CPES!

Thank you to Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church for donating a brand new refrigerator so we can begin a Food Rescue program at CPES! Our students now can donate their food that otherwise would go to waste. Items like, packaged yogurt, cheese sticks, and unopened milk can be stored in the refrigerator and donated at the end of the week to Food for Others. We are looking for volunteers to collect items from the refrigerator and deliver them to Food for Others. If you are interested in volunteering, you can sign-up using our CPES Sign-Up Genius

Free Resources for Families

Did you know that caregivers can access free webinars, confidential consultations, a lending library, and resources to help adults support the success of all students, including those with learning challenges, special needs, and disabilities?
