snow bus

We hope you and your family enjoy the snow day! Our custodians work hard after each snowfall to clear the snow around the entire facility, including the stairs and ramps in the quad.

As you are clearing snow in your neighborhood, please consider clearing the sidewalks and areas around our bus stops so our students will have a safe start and end to their days.

Winter Chorus Concert

Chorus Concert

We are grateful to our wonderful music teachers Mrs. Hibbitts and Ms. Callahan for their work with our 5th and 6th grade singers.

Mindfulness at Wakefield Forest

mindful

As a part of our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), Wakefield Forest engages in teaching around mindfulness. Currently our mindfulness teacher, Cherisse Robinson, is providing instruction in all Kindergarten and First Grade classrooms. Look for more specific information on the skills being taught in your child's take home folder.

Kiss-n-Ride Reminders

knr2

Thank you for paying attention to patrols and staff when they direct you to move forward when picking up your student(s) by car.

1. Remember...Kiss-n-Ride is a ONE WAY street.

2. When to pass and when not to pass

AM - There is no passing during the morning Kiss and Ride as cars keep moving pretty often.

PM - We allow passing in the afternoon because students come out of the building at different times. We ask that you not do so until after you pass the handicapped parking spaces / the yellow curb.

3. Please be patient - many of our younger students require extra time getting out of their cars, vans and trucks with all of their gear.

Future Planning for Elementary and Middle School Students in Special Education

For families, caregivers, and educators of students receiving special education services. *English speakers of other languages: We have language support for you.*

Join Career and Transition Services (CTS) to learn about planning for life in and after high school! It’s never too early or too late to start preparing for your future. We want to help you start planning for a successful transition from school to life as a young adult.

Ensuring postsecondary success of our students with disabilities is dependent on what is known as transition planning. Please join CTS and other support service personnel for an evening focused on planning for the future.

You will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of representatives from CTS programs and services for students with disabilities, as well as learn about short and long-term postsecondary supports, employment and postsecondary education considerations, Supported Decision Making, and student self-determination as an evidence-based predictor of post school success.

Food Sharing Program

Collage of food sharing

Wakefield Forest Elementary School is making a meaningful impact on both food waste and food insecurity through its partnership with St. Matthew's food pantry program. The school's food-sharing program redirects surplus cafeteria food to those in need, contributing to the Get to Green program's commitment to reducing food waste.

By addressing food insecurity concerns, Wakefield Forest not only contributes to alleviating hunger but also cultivates a sense of community and shared responsibility among students.

Support FCPS Relay for Life

relay

Relay for Life – FCPS is an event that brings our community together to fight against cancer.

Relay for Life is a powerful initiative that unites schools, students, and communities in the shared goal of raising funds for cancer research, patient support, and advocacy. It's an opportunity for our schools to make a lasting impact and show solidarity in the face of this challenging disease.

Your generosity would not only contribute to the success of Relay for Life but also showcase the unity and compassion that define Fairfax County Public Schools.

Thank you for considering this request, and we look forward to the possibility of joining forces to make Relay for Life - FCPS a memorable and impactful event.

To sign up to participate, volunteer, etc., please go to our web site at: <https://relayforlife.org/fcps>

It will be held on May 18, 2024 at Woodson HS beginning at 2pm.

Snow Day Information

School buses in snow.

For the current school year, FCPS will be returning to its previous procedure for snow days — there will be no virtual learning days when school is closed due to bad weather.

During snow days, students may still access Tutor.com, complete any supplemental learning opportunities recommended by their teachers, and view educational programming (available virtually and on public access television channels):

Eleven snow days are built into the existing FCPS calendar. Eliminating virtual learning days will allow us to maximize students’ in-person learning and provide equitable access to instruction and student services.
