SCA Day of Service Project at BMP Cancelled Today Due to Weather

The Student Council Association (SCA) Day of Project scheduled for today at Bren Mar Park ES is cancelled for the safety of our community.  Due to the continuing snow and road conditions, we believe it is safest to cancel.  

For this year's project, the SCA selected goals 2 and 3 of the 17 Goals to Transform Our World:

Zero Hunger - The SCA is collecting individual food items to include in Weekend Packs for members in need in our school community.  A weekend pack is a collection of easy-to-make food items for a child who may not otherwise have access to food items during days of no school.  

  • Single-serve food items will continue to be accepted in the Bren Mar Park front office during office hours.  Items such as:
  • - Oatmeal packets
  • - Individual cereal cups
  • - Single serve chili cups
  • - Single serve mac and cheese cups
  • - Ramen
  • - Individual fruit cups

Good Health & Well-Being - Today's project also included making valentine cards and decorations for local retirement community.  Since today's event is being cancelled, we encourage families at home to spend time making cards and pictures.  The SCA will collect anything made through Friday, January 20, 2024 and distribute them next week. 

 

What is Day of Service?

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday also designated as a National Day of Service to encourage people to volunteer and give back.  It is a day when thousands of volunteers participate in service projects across the country, including at national parks. There are a variety of sites available to find volunteer opportunities in the area.  In addition, national parks waive entrance fees for everyone as the first fee free day of the year as a way of giving back.
