Dear Sleepy Hollow Families,
Last week at school, we enjoyed several Read-A-Thon celebrations. Throughout the week, we announced grade level winner on our morning news. On Wednesday, all students had an opportunity to meet an author. Erin Teagan, a former research scientist and the author of several novels for kids including Survivor Girl and the American Girl Luciana books met with 2nd - 5th graders who listened to her life experiences and then observed soil using microscopes in a hands-on activity. Patricia Tanumihardja, author of Ramen for Everyone, Jimmy's Shoes, and Sugar Plum Bakers shared her background and writing inspirations to our kindergarteners and 1st graders before reading one of her books with the group.
Wednesday evening, students, families and staff enjoyed our Read-A-Thon celebration visiting reading activities stations, signing up for a Fairfax County library card and the highlight of the evening, "Guess the Masked Reader." Later this month, the students will have the much anticipated, "Tape the Principal and Assistant Principal to the Wall." Thank you PTA for your collaboration in increasing student reading and celebrating our students success with fun and engaging activities. Our partnership has been invaluable.
Warmest regards,
Mirnaly Vega and Tim Scesney
Principal and Assistant Principal

School Crossing Guard
Fairfax County Police Department annually review all crossing guard positions throughout the county. Sleepy Hollow Elementary School no longer meets the criteria to maintain a crossing guard. Our school, along with other FCPS schools will lose our crossing guard beginning on January 16th.
Lunch with Your Child and Birthday Celebrations
This is a reminder that families are not permitted to bring any outside food (ex. McDonalds, Chic fil- A, other fast food) to the cafeteria when they are having lunch with their child. Parents can purchase lunch at the adult price .
Additionally, birthday celebrations should not include any food items. Parents can bring items such as pencils, stickers or any other small item for the classmates of the birthday student. We have many classrooms with known food allergies and students with an unknown allergy may require immediate medical care. Thank you for your understanding.
