advice from a a snowman

Perfect advice from a snowman to motivate you during these winter months: "Be a jolly, happy soul, spend time outdoors, avoid meltdowns, be well-rounded. Live well, life is short!"

Dear CRES Community,

Let's make this winter season an exciting learning adventure for our kids! Here are some tips to infuse joy and motivation into your children's winter studies:

  1. Create a Cozy Oasis: Help your child design a study nook that is not just warm, but also filled with their favorite things. A delightful space sparks creativity!

  2. Daily Rhythms: Create a daily routine that blends study time with playtime--and the essential ingredient: rest!

  3. Goal-setting Party: Join forces with your little one to set goals that are as achievable as they are exciting! Each accomplishment is a victory dance waiting to happen!

  4. Teacher Tag Team: Keep the connection alive with your child's teachers. It is a partnership!

  5. Frosty Outdoor Frolics: Encourage your child to embrace the chill with fun outdoor games that bring warmth to their spirit.

  6. Celebration Extravaganza: Every achievement, big or small, deserves a celebration spotlight! Applaud your child's efforts, not just the outcome.

  7. Highlight New Hobbies: Dive into books, musical instruments, or sports—whatever brings smiles and laughter!

Let's make this winter a season of engagement and unstoppable motivation!

Warmly,

Dr. Hertzberg, Ms. Wu, Ms. Baugh, Ms. Helmer, and Ms. Ford

Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLK quote

"You don't have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step." Martin Luther King Jr.

This motivational quote emphasizes the importance of initiating action, even if the path forward is not entirely visible.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was not defined solely by his "I Have a Dream" speech. Beyond his iconic address, he was a prolific writer and speaker, tackling issues like economic inequality. King's commitment to nonviolent resistance was evident in actions like the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the Selma to Montgomery marches. His leadership extended to organizing protests and advocating civil disobedience, making him a symbol not just of racial equality but also of broader justice and human rights struggles.

If you are looking for resources and ways to teach your child about Martin Luther King Jr.'s impact, please see this article from Smithsonian Magazine, "Teaching a More Complete Picture of MLK."

Monday isn't just a day off; it's a chance to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.'s enduring legacy in the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality.
