Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday

As a reminder, schools and offices will be closed on Monday, January 15, for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. On this day, we honor and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his dedication to equality and serving others.  Learn more about Martin Luther King Jr. See the complete school year calendar.


Valentines By Kids!

In honor of Martin Luther King and his dedication to equity and service, Parklawn will participate in a schoolwide service project on Tuesday, January 16! We will participate in “Valentines By Kids”, and have students create valentines that will be given to children in hospitals in the DMV. The Parklawn family is excited to share joy and love with others!

January Family Coffee is January 23

Join Mrs. Forgy, our math team, and members of our community for the next Parklawn Family Coffee on January 23rd from 9:15-10:15 a.m. in the library. The Parklawn Math Team will present ideas on how to promote a love of mathematics. Come join the fun as we engage in math games together and learn games that you can play with your student.

🗺️ Dual Language Immersion Program Registration

Registration for the countywide lottery for Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs will open on Monday, January 22. Current pre-K students may apply for the kindergarten immersion program, and current kindergarten students may apply for the first grade immersion programs for the 2024-25 school year. Programs are available in French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. 

Parents/caregivers who are interested may want to attend an informational meeting. Meetings are held at the school site. Check the FCPS events calendar for the most current information. Meetings will begin on Tuesday, January 16

A virtual meeting hosted by the World Languages Office will include general program information. Access to this virtual meeting will be made available on the FCPS events calendar and the Dual Language Immersion registration site on the day of the meeting.

Please join us for our next PTA meeting, scheduled for Thursday, January 18, from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. in the library! Rachel Zamudio, School Librarian, will speak to us about the upcoming book fair and the PTA's Wild About Reading contest. The PTA has supported the Wild About Reading contest for the past two years, and nearly all classrooms have participated. Winning classrooms receive funds that teachers can spend at the book fair to provide new resources for their classes. We'll be meeting in person in the school library-- we hope to see you there!
