Franklin Sherman Flash - January 17

Principal's Message

Dear Franklin Sherman Elementary School Community,

It is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal of Franklin Sherman Elementary School and to join this extraordinary school community. I hope that this email finds you well as your children have had a great start to their 2023- 2024 school year and were able to enjoy a snow day yesterday. I can assure you that I share in this school community’s commitment to caring for your children each and every day while providing them a safe, nurturing, and rigorous learning environment.

I arrive to Franklin Sherman as an FCPS employee for the last 19 years. I have had the privilege of working at all levels (ES, MS, and HS). I have also been fortunate to spend more than half of my career in the Mclean Pyramid to include McLean High School and most recently Chesterbrook Elementary School. My resume includes roles of English teacher, testing coordinator, collaborative learning team coach, and assistant principal at two middle schools and an elementary school. I have diversified my experiences in order to give myself the knowledge base to begin as a principal. In addition to my role as an educator, I am first and foremost a mother and wife. My husband is a Mclean graduate and together we have three daughters (9,7, and 5). They are all looking forward to joining in on community events and sharing the joy I feel in walking into this building everyday.

My goal is to continue the tradition of excellence here at Franklin Sherman ES. I am also committed to always exploring new ways to meet the needs of all students and to more effectively communicate with parents and community members. I ask that you complete this survey so that I can gather more voice from the community and truly understand your individual values and needs.

In closing, please know that my door is always open to you. I heartily welcome your conversation and positive input throughout this year. Let us always keep our students the primary focus of our work. I look forward to celebrating our collective successes for the remainder of this school year and beyond.

Farris Thomas
Principal

Family CultureFest on February 2

Help to make Franklin Sherman's Family CultureFest a huge success by volunteering to host a table or to assist with set up and clean up on Friday, February 2!

This event is a treasured, long-standing tradition, previously known as International Night, that celebrates our wonderfully diverse community. We changed the name to highlight the many brilliant cultures of our Franklin Sherman families--hailing from over 30 countries--that make our school such a unique, enriching place for our children. At Family CultureFest, Franklin Sherman families will host tables to showcase their cultures, while our other students and families tour those tables and get a taste of other cultures.

If you have questions, please feel to contact Ben Moore at ben.c.moore@mac.com.
