KJMS Course Selection Events 2024-25 School Year

Dear KJMS Families,

Now that it is 2024, it is time to think about the 24-25 school year and January is Course Selection season! Current 8th graders (Rising 9th graders) were visited by FHS counselors earlier this week and an FHS Elective Fair is scheduled for next week during TA. Families were also invited to attend the 9th grade FHS Information Night on January 11. We hope these events helped families in making choices about what classes to take next year.

Next week, KJMS will also host a Virtual Curriculum Night on January 17 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM! Staff will host information sessions about all of the classes students can take at KJMS. This event is geared towards students and families that will be in the 7th grade next year, but future 8th graders (current 7th graders) are welcome too. There will be information sessions for core 7th grade classes and for 7th and 8th grade elective classes. Links for all sessions will be posted on the school’s website on January 17 no later than 3:00 p.m.

Both 7th and 8th graders will enter the 24-25 classes they want into SIS during school. Counselors will also meet individually with all students in January or February to answer questions. Parents can see the classes students selected in Student or ParentVue. Parents who do not have a ParentVue SIS account should request one here so that in March they can verify the classes their student has selected. We are looking forward to helping your child pick classes to get ready for next year!

All families are encouraged to visit the KJMS Website for more information.

Consider looking at the Course Catalog on our website. The links are listed below. If you have questions, please ask your student to connect with their KJMS Counselor

In case of a closure due to inclement weather, Curriculum Night will be rescheduled to January 24.

Thank you,

The KJMS Counseling Team

The City of Fairfax Commission for the Arts is proud to sponsor an introduction to opera for children on Sunday, February 11 from 2 p.m.- 3 p.m. at the Stacy Sherwood Center with “Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World”. This interactive 35-minute bilingual opera tells the real-life story of Mariana Morillo Safa, a young girl living in Mexico City and her friendship with famed painter, Frida Kahlo.  Mariana has her portrait painted by Ms. Kahlo and is nervous, but quickly befriends Frida and learns two important lessons in the process: that art can happen anywhere and how important it is to be brave even when you feel scared.  Based on the award-winning children’s book of the same title written and illustrated by Laurence Anholt.

There will be a Q&A with the performers after the program.

For more information and a study guide, please see the Commission for the Arts website under Virginia Opera. Cultural Arts | City of Fairfax, VA (fairfaxva.gov)
